HarperCollins has so altered the cover and interior of this beloved "Little House" tie-in! Like author Barbara Walker wrote in her Acknowledgments, I am resisting the changes in design but am getting accustomed to the lovely food photographs (hoorah for pancake men!) but less of the iconic Garth Williams illustrations. I like the reformatting of the recipes in a standard cookbook recipe style, and Laura's Gingerbread has been added to the collection. Thankfully, Walker's extensive historical text remains faithful to the life and times of the Ingalls-Wilder lives. My own autographed 1979 edition is so marked-up and spattered and filled with memories that I will probably not use this new volume except for gift-giving.

Cute book every Little House fan should have! Love the details of what life was like back then and I like how detailed the recipes are. Makes me realize how spoiled we are now!

I gave this book as a Christmas gift to my mother-in-law. She loves Little House and adored receiving this beautiful cookbook.

I love reading these comedienne's books that give you a sneak peak into what happens behind the scenes. Kaling was a writer on SNL and The Office. I really liked all the industry stories, but that's not all Kaling has to offer.Kaling's wit is strong in this book. I love her snappy comments. Since I listened to the audiobook, Kaling really added her own personality to her written words.I probably knew the least about Kaling than other comediennes I've read recently. I enjoyed learning of how she got into the industry. It made me google a lot of her earlier things and now I want to catch up on The Mindy Project.I give this audiobook a 4/5. It is a great addition to the wonderful comedy books by awesome current comediennes out there.

Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? was such a joy to read. I devoured this book in two sittings. And it wasn’t just one long joke either. There was some real substance to her writing. A lot of legitimately laugh out loud funny moments, but other more deeper moments too. With the turn of each page, you see Mindy grow and mature. Her writing is raw and honest. You feel like you’re sitting down with Mindy over a cup of coffee and something sweet (although, of course, not a cupcake; she doesn’t eat those anymore). I think every woman at any age could find something to relate to within these pages. And I think that’s a real testament to not only the quality of the writing, but also as to the quality of the author herself. The book wasn’t perfect and there were a few moments that were a little slower than others, but she still deserved five stars. It was evident she poured out all of herself into this book. And that’s something you don’t always get. Mindy you have a life-long fan in me!

A pleasant light-hearted look at a woman’s point of view about everything – not to say that it offers advice or opinions, because it’s not. It’s simply a glance inside Mindy Kaling’s head… and it seemed a lot like mine in there.Some parts were random lists or stories about things, which had me laughing my guts out. Simply because they were random. And funny. And how I too suddenly blurt out the most obtuse and inappropriate things. Mindy Kaling is me and a brave woman suit! Heck no, Mindy Kaling is my spirit animal.I wouldn’t go so far to say this book in hilarious. I don’t think that was her goal in writing this book. Just like as a performer or comedian we’re not meant to be performing monkeys ‘on’ all the time just for your enjoyment. It was like sitting down on the lounge floor in you pj’s and having a gasbag with your girlfriends.I love how the structure was broken up into flashbacks, lists, stories and comments on pictures… it really was like how evenings go with my girlfriends, clutching a glass of bubbly reminiscing and making each other cackle until we snort.I did want it to be funnier though. Or more engaging. But I understand in doing so it would have either been too serious, or too silly. This that the right amount of everything to kick back and relax, and to just enjoy reading. I appreciate how Mindy simply blurts out what’s on her mind. It’s finding a voice for much of my internal dialogue; and whether she intended the book to be like this or not, after reading it, I felt that if we were to run into each other at a party would become fast friends. And that is a great tone to have of a memoir. Masterfully done.So many hot key topics discussed without being pretentious. I recommend this to anyone who loves memoirs, or just loves being a girl.

I bought this ebook on Kindle quite a while back when it was on sale. I have no idea why it took me so long to read it. It's freaking hilarious from start to finish. If I could rate it more than 5 stars, I would. Being a huge fan of The Office, I knew who Mindy Kaling was, but I'll admit I'd not watched her in much else. I don't really watch TV. Or, I should say, the only television I watch are shows I already know and love and then I'll stream a season at a time on Netflix or Prime. I am now a huge Kaling fan. This book reads like a really long email between me and one of my BFF's. LOL. I read 90% of it in one sitting and only stopped because I needed at least a solid two hours of sleep before going into work. Definitely intending on reading her follow-up book. I think I highlighted about a quarter of this book... a true record for me. My first highlight is from page 4, during the introduction."However, you should know I disagree with a lot of traditional advice. For instance, they say the best revenge is living well. I say it's acid in the face-who will love them now?"In fact, I even highlighted an entire chapter, the one entitled: Guys Need to Do Almost Nothing to Be Great. I laughed the whole way through the chapter. I'm quite sure my family thought my fragile mental state was hanging in the balance as I cackled like a fiend reading this on my Kindle.FIVE STARS!

He had never been in business, and he thought that if he could build a PC and mark the parts cost up 10%, he could make a pretty good living with a small shop. I explained that he'd be lucky not to lose money working out of his basement at that margin, and that he'd lose his house if he rented a storefront. In the end, he stuck with the government job, though he may try the PC business when he retires with a full pension in a couple years.I didn't write this book to promote some get-rich-quick recipe that will fail for 99 out of 100 people. I wrote the book to show what to expect based on my own experience in the computer business, from working out of the house to a storefront business with millions in sales. The idea isn't to scare you out of trying, as some kids who've reviewed the book have suggested. It's to give you a heads-up on where to concentrate your time to make money and what problems to expect. Bottom-Line: "Start Your Own Computer Business: The Unembellished Guide" a good starting point from which to gather information about the computer service and repair business, from a veteran of the business.I have been dabbling at the edges of computer consulting for quite some time, while holding down a full-time job. I have been building PC's from scratch for family and friends, putting together small networks here and there, and servicing PC's for friends of friends for years now. But it wasn't until I entered into a formalized agreement with a client, who agreed to a fixed monthly retainer in return for my services did I apply for a shingle with the county and make it official. That was some two years ago; I still have my client and his business, and I have garnered more, but I really didn't have a strategy in place to grow the business.Did I want to open a storefront, or continue to operate out of my home office? How would I or should I advertise, and if so through what outlets? Should I bother with building PC's for clients from scratch, and if so how cost effective would it be given the warranty considerations? How much capital should I accumulate before advertising my services? Should I keep inventory on-hand, and if so how much? Should I open a separate business account and how would I keep track of expenses? Questions, questions, questions and very few answers presented themselves readily, so turned to advise from someone who had been in the business for a while and could provide answers I sought. That someone was Morris Rosenthal and his stellar book "Start Your Own Computer Business: The Unembellished Guide."Whether you are planning to start your own computer service and repair shop, have already hung out your shingle, or you have doubts and or concerns about how to best run your business, this book will get you started in the right direction. Most of the questions I needed answered were presented by Rosenthal in well though out prose, written from the perspective of a person who has lived the life of a computer service and repair professional.As good as "Start Your Own Computer Business: The Unembellished Guide" is though, it is relatively small book, checking in at only 160 pages. And while Morris does not embellish the truth, such as his views on spending money and time on the much ballyhooed computer industry credentials, stating: "You're going to need all the cash you can get your hands on. Don't waste it on pieces of paper nobody will read to frame and stick on the wall. That's a game for people who want to be somebody else's employee..." I would have appreciated more in-depth information then he chose to deliver on some subjects.More information on marketing the business would have been useful for instance; as it is, the book only skims the surface, not offering any concrete strategy for how to market a computer services and repair business. Here, his real-world experience would have proved invaluable; as it is very little outside of how to sell yourself and your services to customers, is touched upon. Marketing in my estimation involves a lot more then that.I did however find Rosenthal's advice and insights on working from the home very useful. He starts out the chapter (Infrastructure), thusly: "Looking back over a lifetime of handing out unsolicited advise, I think the worse steer I ever gave somebody was pushing a friend with whom I'd built a successful small computer company (over a million dollars a year sales) to move out of his house and into commercial space...[T]he biggest single expanse a computer business is likely to generate, after employee salaries, is renting commercial space."That opening sentence had me hooked. Why? Because I had bee giving serious consideration to opening a commercial storefront not too far from my home--walking distance really--with visions of hiring a full-time employee to run the shop while I continued to work for someone else full-time. This chapter along with the chapter on money management gave me a sobering does of reality, and ultimately persuaded me to change my mind about the commercial space; my business will continue to operate out of my home thank you very much.Rosenthal goes on to explain the subtle nuances of renting commercial space and the hidden cost associated with such an undertaking. Costs such as telephone, and DSL, I had anticipated, but hidden costs, such as garbage removal, property taxes, landscaping, snow removal, insurance, and even association fees is some cases. "Start Your Own Computer Business: The Unembellished Guide" goes into a rather involved and appreciated explanation how rental space is calculated for lease, and the difference between triple net, and double net leases and the costs that can be associated with both.As it turns out--after further investigation--the commercial space I was dreaming of hanging my shingle on would, on the surface, have been inexpensive, but hidden in the fine print was a host of add-on's including a mandatory $0.75/sf increase a year, and a hefty per month cost for the maintenance of the common grounds. These costs would have made my desire to work the business only half a day, untenable.At the end of the book, Rosenthal offers a handful of useful websites that any aspirating person might use as a resource to start a new business, or expand an existing one. These include The Service Corp of Retired Executives (SCORE), Small Business Administration, IRS, National Business Incubation Association, as well as his own Computer Business support group located at Yahoo.com.Conclusions"Start Your Own Computer Business: The Unembellished Guide" is a general outline for how you might want to conduct your business; the fine minute details are left to other more involved books on the same subject. Rosenthal tents to paint in broad stokes designed to speak to a diverse group of individuals. But these generalities work for those--like me--who are looking for information about the business we are looking to expand or break into. Overall I found "Start Your Own Computer Business: The Unembellished Guide" a good starting point from which to gather information about the computer service and repair business. The book offers practical first person advice from a well seasoned veteran of the business.

This book is no frills for sure, and perfectly laid out what to expect. I've been a geek for a few years now, and it's apparent that being the family's computer guy is all I want from the mobile hardware repair world. I think I'll stick with security, thank you :-)It's good at breaking down things like sales and accounting that most purely IT guys dont think about much, and does so in a clear way. It's very easy to skip from chapter to chapter to just key in on the areas you need to learn, you don't have to read this book chronologically.I kinda wish there was some illustrations or charts used. Theres a few short comics to break up the monotony a little but that's it. But I guess, it's not such a bad thing, and the sub title does read "the unembellished guide." Highly recommended for IT entrepreneurs regardless of specialty.

The material is this books is really dated. It also does not give that many useful tips about starting the business and it did not have any useful forms used for checking in a customer's computer, or a process checklist, work order templates, maintenance contracts, or anything. It was pretty basic. I would not recommend this book to anyone. Instead, watch the Eli the Computer Guy Training Videos on YouTube for FREE and take Professor Messer's A+ Certification Course on YouTube to learn computer repair.

Based on other reviews, I thought this book would be a great hands-on tool to help my young adult son turn his sometime-hobby of toying with PCs into a part time, money making venture -- that could (oh how I hoped) support him one day soon.I have owned small businesses; I have 35 years experience in business; I have a BBA and an MBA AND I have read dozens of books on business (from SBA guides -- that are pretty well done -- to Harvard Business Review articles that I just was not smart enough to understand). My only point being: I think I know a good business book when I see one. There is little organization to this book and certainly not a 'path' to follow. I could provide numerous examples of the worthless gibberish -- such as pointing out, in some detail, what tax forms 4562 and 8829 are for. (I did not read the book word-for-word, cover-to-cover -- but in spending about 20 minutes with it I found that the author mentioned several times something to the effect of "I don't have any experience in that...but here's what I think.") From the book: "Direct mailing can be highly effective, providing you create a good mailing piece and you send it to the right people." Yep...I don't think anyone would argue with that. It's up to the reader to figure out how to 'create a good mailing piece' and how to 'send it to the right people', although he does suggest getting a mailing list from the local Chamber of Commerce. He spends another 150 words or so writing about a bad experience he had having a photographer take pictures for a brochure he was doing. Of the 150 pages, 1 full page is spent telling the story of having made some inappropriate comments while unknowingly recording a message on a speakerphone. I can't imagine how that anecdote will help the reader start and run a successful business. Finally (I could go on and on), I rarely write a truly critical review. I made an exception here because I really believe that this book is a waste of money....at any price. (Maybe it's worth 99 cents on my Kindle...but I would have to sleep on it knowing what I now know.) Buyer beware.

Some good projects but the step by step is somewhat vague. It’s ok for intermediate artist/ crafter but for beginner it may be a little advanced.

The way that the Sidemen wrote this book is exactly like how they collaborate in a Sidemen video, which is really funny, and that's why I'm such a big fan of them. I'm really impressed by the way they present their contents, using the 'Sidemen way'.

I started watching the sidemen on YouTube recently this year and have loved their videos since. I heard that came out with a book about them and how their careers began and what not. I almost didn't get it out of fear that I wouldn't finish the book. I finally went for it and bought it on the kindle version, and finished it within a matter of days. I absolutely loved their book and think they did an amazing job on it. I would definitely recommend this book to a friend.

Meh. The book has it's funny moments, but the text is all over the place in an attempt to be fun. I don't really like this format that much because it makes it harder to read. I bought the book because I thought it would be about the sidemen outside of You Tube. It kinda is, but there is a large section of the book dedicated to FIFA. I don't mind watching the FIFA videos as much as I mind reading about them.

It was completely entertaining. Loved every minute of it, and the pictures really push it over the top for me.

Bought this book for my 12 year old daughter. So nice to see her read and not have her face in an Ipad all day. She hasn't stopped thanking me for buying her this book.

Greate book it is an easy read. I finished it in about 3 days. I love the sidemen so i had to get it the pictures their personal bios the funny add ons everything is done perfect it kept me intrigued and entertained throught the whole thing. Great job!!!

And it's neat to see what they pick when they're forced to compile the components that THEY think make them who they are.

Phenomenal book! Read the whole thing in one go. Artsy way to talk about their lives. Hilarious book, must read for anyone.
