Excellent invitation to why every Christian should engage in theology (although, they already are whenever they ask and seek to discover life's ultimate questions).Olson & Grenz define and defend theology, discuss theology's task's and tradition, the tools required, how theology should be constructed, and the purpose of theology: to bring theology to life in our lives.For anyone who has a negative attitude towards theology, who find it destructive to the spiritual life, just plain boring or too complicated to be involved in, or just is a new believer finding an interest in the Christian doctrine, this short (only 150 pages) and easy read is for you; it's a great place to start on the road studying the Bible.

If you come to this book look for an introduction to a particular theology you will be let down, but that is never what Grenz and Olson claim to be doing in their book. The set out from the beginning not to give you a theology from any perspective but rather to invite you to live more fully into the theologian you already are. On these accounts they do a very good job of defining what Christian theology is and then showing the way forward to thinking theologically.Do keep in mind that this book is very basic, but again that is what it was intended to be. It is not a book about becoming the next great thinker of our time but about taking the first infantile steps toward learning to have a faith that interacts with the world around you. Their last chapter is especially helpful on this front as they circle back to the theory of thinking theologically that they have put forward in the previous chapters and give practical steps that a person might take. They don't claim to be an exhaustive work on theology but if you read this work well Grenz and Olson will point you in the right direction.

Clearly proposes that any person who ponders about the deep things of life and poses questions about God is a theologian, that there are levels of theology that meet different needs, that theology goes beyond mere head knowledge and involves both brain and heart as well as application with integrity of our beliefs to our thoughts and actions, and that it seeks to find agreement between the what the Bible teaches, our Christian legacy and the needs of our culture.

The subtitle of Grenz and Olson’s book bears the words “An Invitation to the Study of God”. Indeed, while the title “Who Needs Theology?” may seem like a rebuttal to theology proper, it is immediately clear that both of them intends to offer an answer to those who might be skeptical towards theology thinking that it is a purely man made enterprise or those who might have succumb to the idea that it is counterproductive towards faith and “experiencing God”.The question is answered promptly at the beginning of book with the chapter titled “Everyone is a Theologian”. There, theology is defined as “any reflection on the ultimate questions of life that points towards God”. As such, it is clear that ever since men looked up into the heavens, wondered about the reasons for his existence and pondered on the beginnings of the universe, its machinations, life and ultimately whether there is a being of higher order “out there”, he is a theologian! Insofar as Christians are beings of thoughts seeking to reflect on their existence, the revealed Word of God and how they are to respond to the world as followers of Jesus Christ, towards its people and its culture, or as the authors put it: “faith seeking understanding”, they are already doing Christian theology.The authors strive to separate folk theology and sound theology in the proceeding chapters, arguing for the need for Christians to develop good theology “because it grounds their lives in biblically informed, Christian truth”. We are all too familiar with happenings at church, bible camps and study groups where a Christian would answer a question by another fellow Christian with a curt statement that when asked to be substantiated by scripture or doctrine, often relegates to a defense of “It is my own experience!” or “I have heard that from a man (or woman) of faith!”. The authors point to the fallacy and indeed the dangers of reducing the Christian faith to experience (which has no objective method of accessing its validity) or hearsay (which often involves blind faith) and instead beseech all Christians to “examine beliefs and teachings about God, ourselves and the world in light of Christian sources, especially in the primary norm of the biblical message”.While the typical objections to theology are expounded and rebutted, the authors nevertheless reminded us that the Lord desires Christians to pursue theology in our own context with all the limitations of life that our context involves. Perhaps even more importantly, it is this limitation that ultimately surfaces good theology and the richness that it entails. Expanding on the need to involve theology “in our own context”, the authors presented two approaches to theology and culture and argued instead for a trialogue, that approaching culture by beginning from biblical theology or vice versa only “presents a dimension of what remains a mystery”. This is a cogent reminder to the lay theologian and seminarians alike that theology is ultimately undertaken not to amass knowledge, precepts and doctrines but rather to approach the infinite mystery with the intent to enable Christians to engage their culture and to articulate the Christian message such that the faith continues to be a living and transformative force in their lives.The warning against intellectual substitution is perhaps most vivid in the authors’ depiction of a person who, because of a love for travel, began studying maps (engaging in the activity of cartography) and eventually confused cartography with seeing the world. In very practical chapters near the end of the book, the author detailed safeguards that should be in place for anyone studying theology as well as forewarnings of discouragements and even misunderstandings by others in the process.Closing aptly for a book written by authors with a love for Peanuts characters, we hear Linus making the declaration to Lucy that she cannot bluff an “old” theologian. I was so excited to see the book I ordered to arrive is absolutely "perfect" condition. I don't think a page was ever turned. Great representation of the condition being "great"!

When Amazon teamed this book with "With These Words...I Thee Wed: Contemporary Wedding Vows for Today's Couples" for their "Best Value" sale, a dear friend was kind enough to buy both for my upcoming wedding. And without a doubt, this duel gift has served as the most useful in making my wedding the ultimate event I desired. A bit of a perfectionist, I wanted to express vows above the norm--romantic, yet realistic. Superior, progressive and unusual, yet from the heart. No small order. But "With These Words" exceeded my expectations and I created a vow that Ron and my guests will never forget! The only thing left was to make certain every wedding detail was attended to and that's where this checklist book saved the day! Yikes, perfectionist-me had actually overlooked some vital details. So if you want your wedding to become your greatest memory, get "With These Words...I Thee Wed" and "Checklist For a Perfect Wedding" and relax...your dreams will come true.

After a ceremony at their place of worship, her parents host a reception at their home. Nothing wrong with that kind of wedding, but if you intend any deviation from this plan, you'll get lots more information from a more up-to-date book. The original of this book was written in 1961, and it doesn't seem to have changed significantly since then.

I received this book as a gift for planning my wedding and used it religiously to make sure I did not forget any details. "Checklist" takes you through all the basics...etiquette, timeline, suggestions etc. The premise is, if you use the list and check off all you've finished and all that doesn't apply to you, you will have considered all the elements of a wedding. In the end, your careful planning and use of the checklist will reward you with a beautiful day that you will remember forever, and guests who are pleased that you anticipated their every need. (The book doesn't include decorating ideas, etc., so I purchased Martha Stewart Weddings MAGAZINE and used online resources.)

This book focuses too much on the older tradional weddings. I don't feel that couples today can really benefit from this book. It's a good starter if you can't find anything else. I highly recommend Pamela Thomas's Bridal Guide.

This is just what you need to organize your thoughts, work out the details, and prepare for an absolely elegant wedding. I had very little time to spare, and this helped me figure out what I needed to do, by when, and for what. I can't wait to read the REVISED Version! It will be even better.

I've been giving this book to brides-to-be for years, and every one of them has told me that it was very helpful to them. It contains great checklists of what to do when, and will help any bride to remember all the details.

I purchased this thinking that it would contain stories about the children who have received shoeboxes--all the stories of how God directs just the right box to just the right child. There are a few on the website, but I expected a whole bookful. Instead, it is all about the various people involved in running the ministry. A big disappointment and a big waste of my money.

I love this book. I was given a copy of out about 4 years ago and do enjoyed it that I wanted to bless someone else with a copy. So I bought out to give as a gift to bless someone else. Out saddened me to see you only had 2 copies available. Also I thought the price was a little high but I liked the book so much I purchased it anyway. I would have bought both copies but couldn't afford it. So glad for the copy I was able to get.

The book is a compilation of stories about Franklin Graham's Operation Christmas Child. The stories are heart warming and inspiring. After reading the book I had no doubt that our God is a God of details. From those that pack and pray over the shoe boxes here in the US to the boy or girl that prays for a specific need and out of the 10 million shoe boxes shipped each year the one box they open has the specific item that they needed. Wow! After reading the book when to their Facebook page and am following all the stories coming our of this year's shoe-box distributions. What a great way to share the gospel.

The stories are heartwarming, and the book is a fast and enjoyable read. I would recommend this book to anyone who has been curious about Operation Christmas Child and the impact it has had on so many people. God bless you, Mr. Graham!

The first book, blue ocean strategy, was groundbreaking in its perspective on strategy - but the reader was left wondering whether it was in fact possible to implement it in real life, and the big question, how? The authors Kim and Mauborgne have thoroughly answered that question here, by explaining how an array of companies, non-profits, and even governments have successfully used blue ocean strategy in practice. What I like is that the examples in this book are entirely new and are covered in more detail than the first book.I also like how they now provide a step-by-step guide, called the five-step process, to developing a blue ocean strategy, that makes it so much easier to implement blue ocean strategy in reality. It takes away some of the uncertainty of the idea-creation process and makes it easy to try to develop your own blue ocean idea in your team or company.If previously the concepts and tools of the first book were somewhat scattered and not entirely cohesive, in this book they lay out which tools are used in which step, and for what purpose. Which I find super helpful.Overall it's a worthy follow up to the first book. Well worth buying if you were intrigued by the first book but couldn't quite wrap your head around using blue ocean strategy in practice. This book will get you there.

BOMB was mentioned in a review of another book and I decided to order a hardback edition. When it arrived and I opened the package my first thought after looking at the cover, was, this is either going to be a very good, or a very bad book. I was delighted to discover it was a very good book.Having been involved with the nuclear weapons program with a high security clearance, assigned to the Defense Atomic Support Agency, Field Command at Sandia Base, Albuquerque, NM, and a person who has researched the Manhattan Project, later using my knowledge to write my first novel based upon the Soviet version of the Manhattan Project (the Soviet program has several names), I was delighted by the author’s attention to detail, ability to explain the program in an understandable and interesting manner, and his historical and technical accuracy.The Manhattan Project was in the 1940s the greatest engineering, scientific and manufacturing effort in the history of mankind. A program that made America the first real superpower, and something all Americans should be proud of.I will add a couple of facts the author may not have known. The Little Boy dropped on Hiroshima had a yield of 12-13 kilotons, not 20KT. The reason was pre-detonation, the fission reaction began as the U-235 “projectile” entered the U-235 “target rings,” reducing the yield.The Soviets detonated a 50 megaton weapon (the yield may have been greater) know as “Tsar Bomba” and the bomb detonated was scaled down from the designed yield of 100MT.The Soviet ability to penetrate the Manhattan Project illustrates how difficult it is to keep secrets—something true then and still true today.Written for school children, BOMB is a book anyone interested in American history, and the history of the Manhattan Project will enjoy.BOMB is an easy, insightful read, and I highly recommend it.

I am in eighth grade and I think this book describes both the race to develop and use the atomic bomb perfectly. The main plot is about the discovery of fission and the making of the first atomic bomb and the ones that followed. It is also about the race between America, the Soviet Union, and Germany to finish constructing the atomic bomb as soon as possible in order to use it if there is a possible or definite threat from the other country or countries. The book is well written and is also full of suspense. The main locations the novel takes place in are America, Japan, and Northern, Central, and Eastern Europe. The subplots talk about the scientists and physicists who were involved in the making of the atomic bomb and the ones who were also spies or were not spies but were accused of being a spy. The subplots also talk about the different locations where each bomb was tested. I would recommend this book to anyone who is interested in American history or physics (science.)

When a friend recommended this Young Adult book, I was a bit skeptical because it was a YA. However, I loved it so much I've recommended it to dozens of friends and family members. It is an excellent overview of the Manhattan Project and really gives great insight into the people involved, the scientific breakthroughs, the moral questions, and the spying that surrounded the whole process. In fact, the author does a great job hooking the reader by beginning with the spy activity at Los Alamos. I've read hundreds of WWII books, so I was surprised how well this covers the key points without getting bogged down in the science, politics, biographies, etc. Highly recommended for ANY AGE.

Great book and provides very useful information that we did not know before. It was on a recommended book list for my son, who is starting the 7th grade. As his father, I got the book for him. He enjoyed a lot and told me I should read it as well. I read it and enjoyed it as well, thus it is a very good book for both kids and adults!

I'm very happy with the size and ingenious layout of the map. It's an appropriate size for "in-the-car" reading. Also, it is plastic coated, so will not rip or tear. Comes with a clear plastic sleeve, which is a bit larger than the folded map, so you can include brochures, receipts, whatever all together.There are a couple things that keep this review from being 5 stars: The print is inherently very small. I had to dig out my magnifying glass to read some of it! (Of course, one does have to give up some things in order to enjoy the smaller size.)Also, I have not found a listing of towns w/corresponding locations on the map.Typical maps list every town/township in alphabetical order with those locations.When you're looking for a specific town's name, you can find it easily. I was born and raised in the US, andcontinue to live here. This map, while very handy for most things, does not help me when I'm looking for a specific town in Ireland, so I have no idea in what part of the island it's located. Google maps helps with that, but it's a bummer to go thru another step. (Again though - the portability of this map is the main thing. If you're trying to use it to plan an itinerary, you'd be better off with a larger, traditional map, or just Googling.)

Love this map! It is made with accordion-type folds, like a paper map, only It is laminated to keep it from wearing out. Each fold opens to one of 12 sections of the entire country, each section has the number of the next page on the map itself, so you know where to go to see the adjacent area. You know how in a folding map you lose sight of the data on the fold line due to wear? Or when they have sections on different pages, it is hard to know where one ends and the next begins? Well, this has printed the overlapping edges on each new section, so when you change pages you can still see the perimeter towns, highways, etc. Brilliant!One section has Belfast and Dublin City maps, small, but a good overview. I also bought the companion map in a book-form called, "Collins Road Atlas-Ireland-Touring Edition." This is a book-style atlas, but with the same information only larger print. I plan to route my trip on the larger map, then use the laminated one for easy reference while driving. I would have liked this in the spiral bound edition, but it seems their 2018 edition releases soon, so is not available yet and I could not find a spiral bound 2017 edition. I have never been to Ireland, so I cannot attest to the accuracy of the information yet. Well worth the money.

This map was a great for our recent trip to Ireland. It came in handy every day as we explored the countryside. It has most of the major roads and many of the minor ones as well. In most cases, when traveling in Ireland, you just have to go with the flow and assume you will get there eventually. We always added an extra hour or two onto our estimated driving time, just in case!

Ordered map too late, went to Ireland depending on GPS and map issued by Hertz car rental,,,,Hertz map was really OK,,,,BUT went we returned and found the Collins Map waiting for us we saw how much better we would have been with the map from Collins,,,,,,we can't say enough about it, counties and roads clearly marked, distance charts,,,,etc......AND the map is folded into sections so you only have to focus on the county or city you want to explore...eleven separate sections in a beautiful and sturdy 'book style" map....what a great product...I highly recmmend

This was a good map to have. I did often wish it would have a better map of the entire island than the one on the back. There were times it would have been nice to look at a map of ireland itself. But... loved that I could mark on it with a dry erase marker to plan the day's route.

This is a good "glove box" map for quick reference about traveling major roads. If you are driving yourself around remote areas, particularly up north in County Donegal and Northern Ireland, you may find you need to see roads that are not on this map. It's a very handy format, which allows quick access to the region you need in the moment, while not folding out to a big, awkward form while sitting in a car.

The map folds very nicely and is fairly easy to use. I did not like the lack of landmarks and the zoom (field of view) was to far away for smaller roads and sights.

Will be needing a good road map of Ireland and this Collins Handy Map will not do. While I like the fact that the pages are laminated and it folds up nicely, it lacks the detail that we need to navigate the island. We're purchasing a road atlas as a result.
