 Ultimate Star Wars is in essence the encyclopedia of Star Wars.This large 320-page hardcover published by DK Books is meant to be a comprehensive reference and companion to the Star Wars universe.As you would expect from DK Books, Ultimate Star Wars is packed with lots of information and wonderful pictures.There are four sections to the book, namely Characters and Creatures, Locations, Technology and Vehicles. Each character, creature or subject is covered in chronological manner as they appear in the films and the animated series Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebel. There are also key events pulled out from the timelines included. This should refresh your memory regarding the universe while you wait for the next film Star Wars: The Force Awakens.Some of the information have been published in other Star Wars books over the years. For example, there are the vehicles and spaceships from Star Wars: Complete Vehicles or planet information from Star Wars: The Essential Atlas, etc. That is however no excuse not to get this book because everything is now collected in one beautiful and convenient volume.Highly recommended to all Star Wars fans.(See more pictures of the book on my blog.  Ultimate Star Wars is a great book that will appeal of fans of all ages and interest levels. One of the authors, Ryder Windham, has worked on many great Star Wars books previously and does a great job compiling detailed information about the movies and their components. In his introduction, he begins with an interesting point: think of Ewoks, or Lobot, or the Slave I. These are never mentioned by name in the films, yet most casual fans are aware of them and know their names. That means they somehow absorbed that information from another source - perhaps the internet, a video game, a novel, an animated series, or maybe even an encyclopedia like this.The book is organized by topics - the first half of the book is Characters and Creatures, and then the second half of the book covers things like Locations, Technology, and Vehicles. Appearing at various points throughout the encyclopedia are "Key Events" (the Duel on Mustafar, Training on Dagobah, etc.)The book is full of detail... each major character gets a biography, important events which they were involved, and sometimes other tidbits of info such as their wardrobe, their weapons, etc. Important characters like Princess Leia and Obi-Wan Kenobi get a full 2-page spread, while smaller characters like Poggle the Lesser or Jek Porkins only get a fraction of a page. But its the inclusion of these small characters and creatures (who may only be on screen for a few seconds) that make the encyclopedia useful and comprehensive.Each section also includes a "timeline" and a "behind the scenes". So for example, the section on vehicles will have a Vehicle Timeline that covers the major events in the saga involving ships and transports - the Boonta Eve podrace, the Battle of Yavin (which destroyed the Death Star), etc. Then there will be a behind the scenes page that shows an AT-AT miniature, an early TIE fighter and X-Wing concept sketch, etc.For those wondering what canon is used for the encyclopedia, it seems to be the six Star Wars films as well as the Clone Wars and Rebels TV series. In looking through the book, I could not find any included subjects that were strictly EU and did not appear in the films/animated series.I should also mention that the book includes a nice foreword by Anthony Daniels, who briefly discusses the complexity of the saga and admits that despite his involvement in the saga over 30 years even he doesn't know all the facts.Overall, this is a highly-recommended product. This isn't a novel, it's a "pretend Star Wars is real and then draw a bunch of diagrams that show how everything 'works'" kind of fake-encylopedia.That said, it's nearly perfect in this role. My kids and I have read and re-read many of these entries.Popping it open is like jumping into the Wikipedia of a galaxy far, far away. Whatever page you hit is likely to look great, contains something very interesting, and reference a half-dozen other cool stuff elsewhere in the book.It's a great resource for anyone into Star Wars fandom, RPG's, comics, or similarly lore-thick approach to Star Wars. It likely has no practical, real world application, but is a great world-bible and springboard for SW-flavored imaginations.

Great book. It appears to be a combination of all the other books for the movies, locations and vehicles. Since it is a combination book it may not be in depth as a devoted visual guide for one movie, the locations book or the vehicle books. At over 300 pages it has a lot of content. It includes the Clone Wars and the first season of Rebels, but doesn't include The Force Awakens.

As they point out several times, Jesus spoke more on money than on any other topic. The Bible has much to say about materialism, consumerism, and the other –isms in our world economy.I came away from reading the book encouraged and empowered to continue making good choices in my own relationship with money. Whether you are one who is blessed with a generous attitude toward money or one who struggles paycheck to paycheck and longs to achieve the ability to be generous, the authors of Your New Money Mindset will give thoughtful, scriptural principles to live by. I have, at various times, tried to read four different editions of War & Peace (Penguin, Signet, Barnes & Noble, and now this) and by far, this is the best edition I've seen. This edition is everything I was looking for in a copy of War & Peace and I cannot recommend it highly enough.Pros:It is highly readable. Translating texts is always difficult, because you want to retain the feel of reading a Nineteenth century work but use language that makes the work accessible. Personally, I found some editions (Barnes & Noble, Penguin) to be hard to read and comprehend, especially when you first begin. This edition is a relative breeze to read.It has French translations. When reading the Signet edition, I found myself using google translate to understand sentences or phrases left in the book in French. Other editions translated most of the French but left phrases here and there untranslated and in the text, without footnotes. I understand in the original, Tolstoy wrote entire passages in French but provided translations in the foot notes. This edition follows that pattern. There are entire passages in French, but they are translated in the footnotes on the page.It has historical end-notes and an index. I am not unfamiliar with European and Russian history, but I, like most people, have no more knowledge than what I learned in my freshman world history class. This work has end notes in the text to provide context. Though it slows me down, I find myself flipping to the back of the book and reading every end note when the text provides it. I cannot stress enough how helpful this has been. The index is likewise helpful. It is an alphabetical list and short biography of the historical characters and places mentioned in War and Peace.It includes a short chapter summary. At the very end of the book, there is a chapter summary for a collection of chapters sharing a theme or describing the same event. The summary is no more than a sentence long and provides a nice refresher when you are trying to recall what happened when.Cons:Compared to editions that translate all the French, reading in the footnotes can be burdensome. I personally don't mind, but I can see how that might trip some people up.If you are looking for a copy of War and Peace, this is the one to get. Trust me.

It is unlikely that anyone who has the endurance to finish this book would give it a poor review. That would still be true, however, if it were one-third the length. It is, if not the best novel ever written, certainly on a very short list of great works of literature.The beauty of the prose, for me, is the fact that Tolstoy speaks through subtlety. His powers of description are beyond comparison, and in fact there is relatively little dialogue given the length of the book. But the focus of his descriptive powers is not the scenery or the landscape, as is often the case, but the gesture, the look on the face, the social context of the event. This is a subtlety that is lost in our dialogue-heavy, action-packed world today, and is almost foreign to most contemporary authors.Which, in part, also explains why War and Peace seems inapproachable to many contemporary readers. Many of us have lost touch with subtlety and if you are one of those, reading this book would be the greatest gift you can give yourself in the months ahead.“Helene was so good-looking that there was not only not a trace of coquetry to be seen in her, but, on the contrary, it was as if she was embarrassed by her unquestionable and all too strongly and triumphantly effective beauty. It was as if she wished but was unable to diminish the effect of her beauty.” When was the last time you read such a descriptive passage that used so few descriptive adjectives?One of the common criticisms of the book is that the characters often speak in French, which is retained in this translation. This is more true in the beginning, however, and, in total, the French represents a small portion of the total prose. And translation is provided, although the electronic version requires a certain amount of digital (as in fingers) dexterity that I don’t seem to have.Tolstoy, however, is sensitive to the inconvenience and I can’t recall a single passage in which the French was central to either the theme or the storyline. It is mostly there for context, so even if you pass over the short phrases you will miss little other than the full experience that Tolstoy intended. Also remember that French and English are not all that foreign to each other and the most important words in French can be easily guessed by English readers with a little lingual abandonment.Similarly, the complexity of Russian naming conventions need not be the burden it often is to the English reader. Tolstoy most definitely wrote a novel, not a mystery thriller, although he claims that it is not a novel. The storyline is not the book; it serves the theme. That, along with the rich context provided by Tolstoy’s prose, means that you don’t have to recognize each name before you complete the sentence. Nine times out of ten the identity will become obvious before the scene ends. And for that exception there is a handy reference guide. My advice: when you encounter a name that you don’t immediately recognize, read on for a bit before you look it up.As a thematic novel, it is not Tolstoy’s intent to document the Napoleonic wars, although that is the rough timeline of the book. He uses the history more to reveal the cultural themes he seeks to reveal—the culture of the Russian aristocracy at the time.While that culture contrasts sharply with the way in which most Americans are inclined to think of Russia, the themes are quite timeless. There are many passages which could as easily be describing today’s aristocracy—the wealthy elite. As Yogi Berra reminded us, “The more things change, the more they stay the same.”Tolstoy is particularly philosophical about war. When I asked a friend of mine who was a Marine veteran who served in the jungles of Vietnam what he thought about the movie, “Saving Private Ryan”, he noted that no one has ever been able to capture the sheer chaos of war on film. Tolstoy, however, does capture it in prose and it is moving without being graphic or overly detailed. You nonetheless feel that you are immersed in the same situational context as the young infantryman thrown about in the chaos of futility and death.In the end, this book easily earns its reputation as one of the best novels ever written. Through his grasp of subtlety and his incomparable ability to build intangible impressions with tangible prose, Tolstoy takes us through the full range of human emotions, accomplishment, and vacuity.Unlike most contemporary authors, Tolstoy actually “tells” us little. As many great novels do, he merely puts themes out there for us to consider and mold to our own experience and our own lives. You will be surprised at how much of yourself you find in early 19th Century Russian characters and events. If not timeless, the insight and the human revelation are universal. As Tolstoy himself wrote, “We can know only that we know nothing. And that is the highest degree of human wisdom.”Indeed!

The two stars are not about the book but Amazon's mislabeling of the translation.This Kindle edition is now the Anthony Briggs, not the Rosemary Edmonds translation. I have the paperback version of the Anthony Briggs translation and it matches up perfectly with this kindle edition. I really wish Amazon would do a better job of labeling who translates their Kindle editions, different translations can make all the difference in your enjoyment of the book.

I was first introduced to this book over the summer, and it was one of the best gifts I have ever received. This is a beautifully illustrated book that seeks to make meals memorable. Each pair of pages features an "invite" or friends page and a menu page. (The left side is the invitees page and the right side is for the menu.) Each page is adorned with gorgeous artwork. When I received this book, I documented some of our most precious meals. My mother was dying and our final meals as a family were forever penned in this book. I am now giving this book as gifts this holiday season because food and family is so important. I can't give this book enough stars. Job well done, Jacques!

I waited several weeks for the release of this book, and its arrival today did not disappoint! The cover is of the highest quality, with sturdy binding, embossed lettering, and a bit of matte/gloss contrast in the design. The pages are nice and thick--no need to feel timid about penning in your own menus and guest lists. The artwork is delightful and varied, with just the right touch of whimsy. This book is everything you would expect from Jacques Pépin--an invitation to join in the fun without being intimidated by his genius.

I ordered this as a housewarming gift for a couple, but after just receiving it today, I think I want to order one for myself! It is BEAUTIFUL! The artwork and colors, amazing. It is also bigger than I had expected! It is great quality - I think this is going to be a hit! Highly, highly recommend ordering this.

There are no menus in this book, just blank pages. Misleading description, does not deserve one star.

Purchased this for a shower gift. Beautiful for someone who loves to cook. However the book arrived damaged. The corners were all bent....this is the second time a book from Amazon arrived this way. I was able to make do but the book should of been bubble wrapped.

Perfect gift for someone who loves to entertain. I purchased it for a gift to my daughter. She belongs to a book club that meets for dinner at a members home once a month to discuss their latest book. Thought it would be perfect to keep track of book discussion and the evening dinner. Love that art work and the ample space for writing.

What a great book. It is about childhood sweethearts, broken hearts and second chances. If you like this book, you will love the rest of Jennifer Youngblood's books!

Scarlett and Rigby are great together! I always like a bit of intrigue with my romance. The Hot Headed Patriot does an excellent job with that. And a grandfather you want to hate, but you really can’t just adds to the enjoyment. I love Rigby and Scarlett’s story. Swoon!!!

Great suspense! Plots within plots. Loved the romances. Small town charm and gossip at its best. I love the fair and all the contests they have. This book made you feel like you were right there in the town celebrating and eating at the Magnolia with everyone. Bravo!

The perfect blend of Southern charm - gorgeous location, charming small-town, bustling city life, sassy and savvy Misses, strong and faithful Gents, plus a whole lot of sweet potato pie topped with a dollop of intrigue. Enjoy!

I never knew a company would pay me up to $600 a month to wrap my car in advertising. That is a good car payment. So I could really drive a car for free. There are so many other links in this book with ways to do a "side hustle" (see what I did there :)) I think most of these are from the podcast The Side Hustle Show.I am still wondering if someone could live for free. It does take a little work and effort, but everything is in this book to basically live for free. But I did find "CuddleUp" very creepy and very funny. Do you want to know how to travel for free? I will post back here if it works for me. I might even start a blog about living and traveling for free. This book is great for idea generating.

Huge resource for anyone that wants to make a little extra cash or wants to build their own side hustle income stream. It's a little intimidating at first because there are so many different ways. Read it all the way through first to get a big picture view of each and then dive into two or three resources, reading the sections again.It's obvious Nick has been doing this for a long time in the detail he goes to for each passive income stream. There were a couple of the ways to make money that I had wondered about but didn't know if they could work or how to get over hurdles you hear about on the web. The book covers all the challenges you'll see in each side hustle strategy and really talks you through it.Especially useful was the section on making money on Fiverr. I've hired from the site but was skeptical that anyone could make real money from it.
