About the Author

Emily Easton is the vice president and publisher of Crown Books for Young Readers. While she usually works to create books from the other side of the desk, she was inspired by the activism of the Parkland survivors to write this book in celebration of the people who have stood up to power to help make our country a more perfect union. The people in, timeliness of, and purpose for this book are really important. The illustrations of all the people in this book are beautifully done. I’m just disappointed in the format and layout of this book. Each peaceful protestor is given a 2 page illustrated layout, but with only a sentence provided for each protestor. A majority of those sentences are only 4-5 words long describing how the person or people protested. Then, the last 4 pages of the book relist the people, and give a more detailed description of why they protested and the struggles they endured because of it. If I was using this book in the classroom, I’d need to give descriptions of some of these people because there is such a wide variety that my class isn’t going to know who all of them are. The descriptions are very necessary to create more meaning for children who are reading this book, and it would have been nice for them to be on the same page as their full illustration, not crammed all together on the last 4 pages of the book.

Beautiful illustrations tell the basics of 20 different protestors with extra explanations at the back. It's amazing to look at how long some of these protests take historically and then relate it to present day where people THINK they know how protests work and want to tell the protestors, very inaccurately, how things work and what they should do.

A powerful, kid-friendly intro to the history of American protesters. Use this as a discussion springboard supported by thorough back matter and a foreword by a Parkland survivor.

I loved this book because the text is simple, yet powerful. There are explanations in the back for more information about the protestor. This book crosses races and genders. The illustrations are beautiful. I love the message of making the world a better place one person at a time.

More information is laid out in this book that was not covered the "The Smartest Guys in the Room". Read them both to get the full story of this event. But back to Power Failure - Lay, Skilling and Fastow (among others) are crooks, plain and simple. What is more disappointing is that so many banks, law and accounting firms were lured into the web of deceit weaved by Enron executives. Read more $$$$$ is better than integrity and honesty. The few honest employees/consultants that were in the know, who showed genuine concern for the events that lead to the collapse were out cast as the ones that did not "get it".The real losers (not in a negative context) were the hard working honest employees of Enron, who, poured life savings into a company that was successful on paper only. I am truly sorry for the Lay family of the loss of Ken, but he cheated the legal system by not being able to serve his sentence for his evil deeds.The author does a great job of taking complex terms and concepts and explaining them so non-business/finance folks like me can easily understand what was right and what was wrong with what Eron was doing. I can assure you that Eron knew the difference and chose to take the wrong road. Had Lay, Skilling and other done it the right way - Enron would probably still be a thriving entity in the energy community today.

The media spun this news event into a tale of good guys versus bad guys - the powerful executives hurting the weaker, low ranking employees. But the profoundness of this case is that such a scandal can occur at any corporation.As effectively illustrated in Power Failure, the handiwork of CFO Andy Fastow blurred the lines of legality so indistinctly, that it was difficult for several renowned legal firms and accounting firms to recognize as unethical. It perfectly describes how Enron used accounting practices like FAS 25 to book earnings before they could be earned. It shows how Enron used fair value accounting as an unfair means of shuffling assets and making profits. It shows Andy Fastow's the gradual chipping to create a complex network of special purpose entities, which turned into a recipe for disaster.Power Failure does a good job debunking many of the misunderstandings that surround the Enron case. Despite the media glamour as a hero, the "whistleblower" Sherron Watkins actually played a minor role in exposing the scandal. The mysterious suicide of accountant Cliff Baxter really had no hidden agendas. Questions can also be raised as to Ken Lay's participation in the event, despite his insider trading of stock.Perhaps the greatest strength of Power Failure is that it can show executives of other companies what to watch out for. Students and accounting buffs will also find this a worthwhile read. Being knowledge about the Enron story may even prevent such an incident at your company.

I recommend reading "Conspiracy of Fools" first to get to know the cast of characters. Then read this to get a participant's perspective. What is shocking is how easy it was to steal millions. The answer is chicken oversight.

Unless you are a corporate bean counter and have a firm foundation of the Enron debacle, I suggest you read Robert Bryce's *Pipe Dreams: Greed, Ego, and the Death of Enron* before reading "Whistle-blower" Sherron Watkins' story, here with the help of Texas Monthly's Mimi Swartz. *Power Failure* is focused more on Enron's people and personalities than The Big Picture. If you are clueless about "Mark to Market" accounting, return to *Pipe Dreams* and do not collect your now worthless Enron-backed Pension.The photos are more plentiful here and the personalities come alive in their wicked glory. There are no footnotes, and few quote attributions - which can lead to credibility issues. What was her motivation? What did she know and when did she know it? Why wait so late? There is one cool -and it's even attributed- quote, which, unfortunately, Azon's "editors" will not let me quote here in its entirety. It goes something like this: Senator Peter G. Fitzerald to Kenny-Boy (Pres. G.W.'s pet name for him) Lay: You're perhaps the most accomplished confidence man since Charles Ponzi. About the Author

John M. Facciola was appointed a United States Magistrate Judge in the District of Columbia in 1997. Prior to being appointed to the bench, he served as an Assistant District Attorney in Manhattan from 1969-1973, and was in private practice in the District of Columbia from 1974-1982. Judge Facciola joined the U.S. Attorney’s Office in 1982 and served as Chief of the Special Proceedings section from 1989 until his appointment as Magistrate Judge. A frequent lecturer and speaker on the topic of electronic discovery, Judge Facciola is a member of the Georgetown Advanced E-Discovery Institute Advisory Board and a recipient of the Sedona Conference Lifetime Achievement Award. Kimberly Williams is the founder and CEO of RedShift Legal, Inc. She is a certified Six Sigma Master Black Belt, and pioneered the application of Six Sigma processes to legal service delivery domestically and abroad (in India, where she spent nearly two years).  She has consulted extensively with both in-house and law firm clients on the application of these processes in various contexts requiring the optimal use of legal technology, including eDiscovery, contracts management, alternative fee arrangements, and other legal projects.  Kimberly received her A.B. from Harvard University, and her J.D. from Columbia Law School, and practiced as a commercial litigation associate at Carter, Ledyard & Milburn and Loeb & Loeb.  She is currently an adjunct professor of Legal Technology and Legal Project Management at New York Law School. Vincent M. Perfect for the study I was doing for on Western Liturgy. I used this in conjuction with a number of other texts.

Haven't had time to crack it open yet. I'm confident it is an excellent resource as it was recommended by a solid Dominican teacher.

Dr. Klauser presents a classical interpretation of the changes and developments in the liturgy from the time of Christ to Vatican Council II. The work is divided into four periods which have become standard designations: from the Ascension of Jesus to Gregory the Great, "creative beginnings," (30-590); from Gregory the Great to Gregory VII, "expansion under Franco-German preeminence," (590-1073); from Gregory VII to the Council of Trent, "luxuriant growth," (1073-1545); and from Trent to Vatican II, "unification and regulation," (1545-1963). Each period is introduced with a concise summary followed by Dr. Klauser's discussion. Four appendices are included and the translator has added a page of citations to supplement the 57-page bibliography.Of particular interest to the reader, Dr. Klauser does not hesitate to point out misdirections the Church has taken such as development of the cult of the sacrament playing out "the misuse of the mass as a devotional exercise in front of the monstrance" (p.139). In another example he discusses the shocking revisions to the liturgy brought about by Vatican II (p.153-159). In all, an easy (although scholarly) and informing read, laced with history and enlightening asides.

I wanted this book because I was passed down an oriental rug and wasn't sure what it was worth or how to appreciate why it was rumored worth that much. I would totally have this be my hobby now because this book was so interesting. If only I had more space to put rugs! This book told me everything I needed to know about Oriental Rugs and where my rug is from. I even understand the patterns now, what the colors mean, and how to maintain it. I estimated my rug's worth using the guide at the end of the book and without telling the expert my estimate, theirs was only about 20% off of mine! This book was really useful and I'll probably keep it as long as I keep the rug.

By far the best guide to oriental rugs, out of the 4 I have read. Very specific, practical, comprehensive information. The explanations are clear and spot-on. The section on bargaining is priceless. Even though it was published 30 years ago and the dollar numbers are outdated, that is unimportant compared to the value of this highly-qualified insider's knowledge. It is very nicely written, too.

Interesting book. Chapter on "profit sharing" worth the price of entry. Tells you how to negotiate the price of a rug. I have never seen anyone else even approach this topic in this way. Rest of the book pretty basic but certainly worth the $4.25 it will cost you including shipping.

While I own a few rugs from a previous trip to the Middle East courtesy of Uncle Sam, I wanted to better educate myself to place myself into a better bargaining position with the local merchants. I believe this book is an excellent resource and explains a great deal about the history, workmanship, and variety of Oriental carpets, but it also includes tips on how to shop (including haggling), how to pick rugs based on your home, and cleaning and care recommendations. The only downside is the age of the commentary since the market has changed, at least from what I see, since this book was written. Nevertheless, it is a great introduction to the fascinating and beautiful world of Oriental rugs.

The book is informative and information is thorough.I picked this book because of the sales person where I bought my rug recommended it.Although this was a used book it looks very new.I would recommend this book to anyone who wants to get information about oriental rugs and informationon the process of making the rugs, where it was made, how it is to be cleaned, and much more.

For someone who wants to learn how to purchase and recognize a high quality rug, this is a must for beginners. There are so many rugs out there that are outrageously priced yet there are characteristics from the book that you can learn to distinguish them from machine woven ones from China with wool imported from New Zealand.

Simone was an ass the first time around..trying to impress his family, he forgot the first cardinal rule..never fall for the mark. But fall he did..and when it was done, it was done. Unfortunately his heart did receive the message. When he bumps into Eden years later, he finds his young man feelings are still there, only bigger. Eden sees Simone and she can’t believe her eyes. He betrayed her and her family threatened her and her dad..how could she possibly think of giving him another chance. She can’t dictate what her body says, but will she ever be able to trust him again..and when danger finds her..will they ever see their happily ever after?I’m new to this author, but I enjoyed the book. The 2 guys who worked at the store were a bit of a distraction, but otherwise, I liked the secondary characters. Wish we had more story on Linus and his vendetta to explain things. I do secretly wonder why Eden would get involved with the DeSerra clan as crazy as they are, but the heart knows what it knows. Simone has an evil streak that I’m sad to say, I thoroughly enjoyed. The lengths he would go to just for the family was one thing, what he did and was prepared to do for Eden was hot as hell.I want to know more about the DeSerra brothers and maybe even Smalls. Hopefully there is more where this came from.

I love reading who done it stories and this one did not disappoint. Eden Noble and Simone De Sera broke up years ago because of Simone's sketchy family business. Simone's relationship turned into something he was not expecting to happen. In the process, he broke Eden's heart. Years had past and they both moved on with their lives, or had they. They never really forgot about each other. With their unexpected meeting in Eden's Garden store, Simone was determined not to let her get away again despite the promises he made to his uncle, the Don of the family. Simone kept one crucial detail from Eden and turned out to be his undoing and threw Eden into the path of an unexpected and unknown enemy of her father.I just knew the ex wife had something to do with the predicament Eden was in. I was shocked to find out that it had nothing to do with the De Sera family. One never knows when an enemy will come back to bite you. But in this case, they found out that revenge is best served as a road paved straight to hell. Don't stand between a made man and the woman he loves and getting his HEA with her. You will lose every time. This was a good read.

I have read a few of her stories,this one was a good read with the up and downs. Running into each other after breaking up years ago.The story line wasn’t bad but Donnal as her go to when things got bumpy got on my nerves. He was crushing on her so playing that just making Simone jealous ☹️ Adult women don’t play games like that. The end rolled up on you fast one minute she is running for her life when she then gets rescued. Next they are in the church. The end.88% story over.

Simone DeSera part of the mafia family who was dating Eden Noble daughter of an FBI agent who was giving his family a hard time with their business. Simone and Eden had a platonic romance when they were young which resulted in Eden leaving him when they used her as a pawn against her father in order for him to turn his back on government information. Years later Simone is working for the governor office while still getting pet projects passed in order to help his family business with at times using a strong arm. They meet again and the chemistry is still there, however, he has an estranged wife Lynnette who is half nuts and a family who really doesn't believe in divorce. The godfather had promised Mr. Noble that his nephew would leave his daughter alone for helping them with getting rid of government information. There is a lot of family dynamics played in this story with some hostility again each other and some backstabbing.

Loved Eden, so happy her and Simone found each other again after so many years. Simone is from a mafia family. Several years ago Eden's father an FBI agent was digging in to Simone's family businesses. Eden was threatened by the family, Simone could not hurt her physically but he did hurt her mentally. This book has crazy ex-wife, kidnapping, attempted murder, and an overprotective Alpha..

I loved reading Simone and Eden's story. These men when they find that one woman they love, they love them fiercely, and very protective of them. And I love them for that. This was a very good story, with that said I would absolutely recommend this book to anyone who enjoy reading a good story about giving love a second chance,it also had a bit of drama in a good way, not that crazy kind. I think you will enjoy reading all the stories on this family. Great job Niya thank you and please keep these stories coming.

Simone and Eden are a wonderful pair. This story had it all: good chemistry between Eden & Simone (both with strong personalities), a good plot, solid secondary characters and hot sex.The storyline was engaging and came to an expected conclusion without being trite and sappy. Very good!

So intense and on the edge reading. Eden nd Simone have a very very interesting relationship. Drama, hot, twists and unconditional love. First book by this author and can’t wait to read the next book. Great book. Must have in the library.
