Nick Garbutt's "Wild Borneo: the Wildlife and Scenery of Sabah, Sarawak, Brunei and Kalimantan" is a wonderful addition to an existing seies for the lay reader and expert alike. This series, started by New Holland Press and continued by MIT, has volumes on "Wild ....." including Indonesia, India, New Zealand, South Africa and Thailand. All were done a half dozen years ago or so. Thus this well-written and beautifully photographed book is most welcome. It is also reasonably priced for its intrinsic value. To underscore its importance, one need look no further than the name of the author of its preface, Sir David Attenborough. It covers Borneo's habitats, wildlife, people, The Heart of Borneo, fabled Mt. Kinabalu and ecotourism and conservation. Garbutt is also the author of the excellent and comprehensive "The Mammals of Madagascar."

This book is extremely thorough. Just about any information one could want is contained here. I have only praise for the editors and others who produced this volume.

Borneo or what is left of it is an area of intense diversity of both animals and plants. Reading this book will certainly enlighten everyone.

We just returned from 21 days in Borneo. This book had great photos of the pictures that we didn't get.

I search it from Amazon website. The book provides a lot of information about Borneo.So I buy it from Internet.

This is a very nice book. The book is filled with wildlife, everything from sea life to mammals of the third largest island in the world. There are orangutans, proboscis monkeys, venomous snakes, etc. There is also the world's largest flower in the book, Rafflesia. Borneo is the largest island in Asia as well. Other animals in this book are elephants, gibbons, and hornbills. It is a lovely tropical island; this book is a MUST for anyone interested in all kinds of nature.

The author has spent some time researching and developing this beautiful book on Borneo. Borneo is truly a treasure that needs to be protected as well as the animals and (native) people living there. The pictures bring to life the amazing variety and aspects of animal life in Borneo and parts of Malaysia. Great book with great information.

There's always been something missing, though, so this year I decided to see if these are still being made. I was thrilled to find that they are! I love the gentle photographs and seemingly unending array of inspirational quotes, and the pages are laid out with enough space to make them easy to use. My one complaint (and the only reason for knocking off one star) is that it's an 18-month calendar that starts in the middle of the previous year. First off, it makes the planner half again as thick and heavy as it already is (since it's made with quality, thick paper), and secondly, if I always buy 18 month calendars, there's always going to be wasted overlap between them. I don't quite get it. Maybe the 18 month format works for some, but I would personally prefer to have a traditional Jan-Dec 12 month option for the rest of us. I ended up ripping out July-Dec 2017 to make the planner a more manageable size for 2018.

My favorite planner! Love the pictures, quotes and layout! Pages are sturdy and calendar is small enough to carry with me, but big enough to actually write what I need to. Very happy with it!

My absolute favorite yearly Weekly Planner. This must be my 5th or 6th year of using one from Simplicity.

My most favorite planner ever! Been using it for years. Beautiful photos, thoughtful quotes, nice paper - the spiral binding and the cover pocket are a bonus! I'm not as much of a fan of the 18-month length but I suppose it's just more pics + quotes to enjoy!

I love the beautiful, calm, soothing photos on this calendar. The quotes for each day are lovely, but I just wish they weren't white letters on a dark yellow background - makes them hard to read.

I get one of there every year. The pages hold a week of spaces on one side and a nice picture an saying on the other. I find these engagement invaluable to keep our buys lives on track. Nice metal binding, extra pages in the back for notes.

I get this every year. I keep my weekly appointments written in it and enjoy the photographs and qoutes each week.

The calendar lies flat and has plenty of room to write in each day, even accommodates lists. Most important, I love the photos and the uplifting quotations.

I can honestly say, I am looking forward to reading the second part of this book too.P.S. my favorite tidbit from the book was the example of building a discount curve via matrix inversion. It brought a smile to my face how easy it was to recreate via a python console with numpy...

Letters and Papers from Prison is a collection of notes and correspondence covering the period from Dietrich Bonhoeffer's arrest in 1943 to his execution by the Gestapo in 1945. The book is probably most famous, and most important, for its idea of "religionless Christianity"--an idea Bonhoeffer did not live long enough fully to develop, but whose timeliness only increases as the lines between secular and ecclesial life blur. Bonhoeffer's first mention of "religionless Christianity" came in a letter in 1944: What is bothering me incessantly is the question what Christianity really is, or indeed who Christ really is, for us today. The time when people could be told everything by means of words, whether theological or pious, is over, and so is the time of inwardness and conscience--and that means the time of religion in general. We are moving towards a completely religionless time; people as they are now simply cannot be religious any more. Even those who honestly describe themselves as "religious" do not in the least act up to it, and so they presumably mean something quite different by "religious." The pleasures of Letters and Papers from Prison, however are not all so profound. Occasionally, Bonhoeffer's letters burst into song--sometimes with actual musical notations, other times with unforgettable phrases. About the Author

Dietrich Bonhoeffer was born in Breslau in 1906. The son of a famous German psychiatrist, he studied in Berlin and New York City. He left the safety of America to return to Germany and continue his public repudiation of the Nazis, which led to his arrest in 1943. Linked to the group of conspirators whose attempted assassination of Hitler failed, he was hanged in April 1945.

It was over 50 years since I had read "Letters and Papers from Prison" and somewhere along the line my copy must have been loaned to someone and went missing. However, it was the original shorter edition containing only the letters from Dietrich to his good friend Eberhard. This expanded edition also contains most of his letters to his family members and his fiance. I am so glad I got this edition. It is the only way to see Bonhoeffer's depth of thought, his struggles with his conscience as to whether a Christian pacifist (himself) can justify participating in the assassination of Hitler. He also goes into depth about his suggestion for a "non-religious Christianity."You will also trace his wrestling with his prison life, and where it might lead. HOWEVER, I highly recommend that before you read LPP that you read Chapter 13 of Bethge's Biography of Bonhoeffer. Unless you do you will get the impression that he thinks his case will be resolved quickly. His letters to his family members often sound optomistic and up-beat, which is far from the truth. His family knew full well his case would probably end up with his execution, but Bonhoeffer wrote to them in a code that they would understand which gave them a much darker expectation. For instance, he often mentions the health of "Uncle Rudy." "Uncle Rudy" is the code for the war raging throughout Germany. There are many such codes in his letters to family which are given so they will pass the Nazi censors. These codes are well explained in Chapter 13 of Bethge's Biography. Many of the letters to Bethge (he was a seminary student years earlier taught by Bonhoeffer) were smuggled out of the prison and bypassed the censors, that's why their content is so much bleaker.If you want to understand Bonhoeffer at all you must at least read "Letters and Papers from Prison" and then surely read "The Cost of Discipleship."

It's impossible to write a review that can, in any way, describe the depth and intensity of this book. It merits a review of each letter. It is listed in Terry Glaspey's Great Books of the Christian Tradition. It is a collection of letters to and from the great martyr Dietrich Bonhoeffer during his two-year imprisonment prior to his hanging in April 1945. The letters express a vast range of thought and emotion. In a few letters, he does express complex theological ideas, but in most of them, it is profoundly readable as he expresses what it means to be human in a difficult situation. He acknowledged the revelation that the Christian life is not lived in theological work or in contemplation or meditation, but in the ups and downs of daily human life. Much of it is difficult to read not only because of the angst it produces but also because of the tears in the reader's eyes make it difficult to see the words on the page. As I have tried to say, the breadth of thought is too great to summarize in a review, but it was notable to me that he stated that he was no longer certain that the ideas he expressed in his book "The Cost of Discipleship" were valid. In the early days, he said that he read the Psalms every day and was reading the Bible straight through. He often quoted Scripture or referred to passages, testifying to his love of and value for the Bible, a Book that too many people deprive themselves of altogether, even though they are free and not confined in prison. He said that he believed that his time in prison was not wasted though he did not know what would come of it. He wrote, "I believe that nothing that happens to me is meaningless, and that it is good for us all that it should be so, even if it runs counter to our own wishes. As I see it, I'm here for some purpose, and I only hope I may fulfill it." Of course, his letters themselves present a unique view of what it means to live as a Christian in the most horrible circumstances imaginable. He often said that his fellow prisoners and the guards found him calm and pleasant, while he often felt anything but that inside. He was depressed, happy, lonely, content in solitude, crabby, compassionate. The entire spectrum of human life and feeling is expressed through these letters in a way that could never occur in a formal theology book. And in a sense, he expressed in a simple, straightforward way the thoughts of humankind about life. It is very simple and very profound and heartbreaking, all at the same time. This is a book not to be missed.

Reading all of the correspondence between Dietrich Bonhoeffer and his family and friends, instead of just the lifted out theological truths was extremely helpful to me in forming a clearer picture of this man. I loved the way theological insights just seem to appear in the midst of every day correspondence. It was like finding Easter eggs or, better still, like finding that treasure buried in a field that Jesus told us about.

I am intrigued and amazed at these letters. Letters to and from Bonhoeffer while he was imprisoned. What an interesting way to look back at the time of WW2. This book is only the beginning for me. I want to read all I can about Bonhoeffer. I highly recommend this book. It helps to know that throughout the book there are footnotes that help identify situations and people that are mentioned. There is also a family tree, an index of people, and an index of places.

Poignant and painful to read, especially since we know the "end of the story." Still, given the current political climate in America, reading everything by Bonhoeffer and about Bonhoeffer (I recommend Eric Metaxas' excellent biography) is appropriate. His live and words are spine-chilling in their application to our own evil times.

Dr. Bonhoeffer, a kindly elegant intellectually outstanding man, tried to keep the Nazis out of his church, worked internationally as long as he was free to keep church and state separate, was unsuccessful in his quest during his lifetime, was imprisoned for his efforts, and finally murdered b y the Nazis a few days before the end of the war.... to make his humiliation complete. He was not humiliated; his letters and books live on. His life work an example of what one man should do when the bad guys gain control of a patriot's entire country. Today his work is studied in fine colleges around the world, as it should be. I am Jewish and learn from every word. May God bless his memory and rest his soul G Kossow

This is a technical training manual and therefore demands high quality illustrations rendered in ultra fine detail with "jump-off-the-page" illustrations. Only a few of the illustrations are sharply contrasted and comfortable to view. Very poor publishing job on the illustrations. But Apple, a company I love, seems to have lost some of the magic it once brought to its products.The technical writing in the manual is a bit cumbersome to follow but then I have never seen a technical training manual that wasn't. Seasoned editors switching from another non-linear editing system to FCP would find the manual useful. For a beginner it's going to be a bear of a journey to learn FCP here.Having said that, I think beginners might be able use the manual along with the download files to learn FCP.The best way to learn FCP as a beginner to take a long course taught in the classroom by an expert FCP editor who is also a gifted teacher. Such classes a few and far between as educators rush to move to online.

DO Not BUY THIS BOOK!!Ypu will not be able to follow what is being said with the visuals.The images on every page are over saturated, and are not readable. There is no one in publishing to correct this and the book is 80.00! They rushed to printing but failed to mails us a useable document. Shame on Apple!!!! And Double shame on Amazon !!!

I've checked out the earlier Edition FCPX 10.1 from my public library, but the images in the FCPX 10.4 are too dark to understand. I'm returning the book to purchase an earlier edition.

This book taught me how to use fcpx to plan and manage a project from start to finish. The media used for the project was easy to download and of excellent quality.

I just received this book, flipped through it and immediately returned it.The graphics are unbelievably poor for a $60 book. Graphic examples such as screen shots are tiny, dark, low resolution and illegible. For a book about video images, way more attention needs to be paid to the size and quality of the graphic images.

Sparknotes is a great supplement and learning tool. Highly recommend it. Having summaries of the characters is so very helpful because there are many characters, and they are introduced so quickly. Initially, it can be confusing in keeping the characters separated. We use Sparknotes as much as we can for other books, too.

I chose this book because Kristen Hannah blew my freaking MIND in The Nightingale. That book had me crying and laughing and swooning and just made my life.Home Front was so completely different, I don't even believe that it's the same author. It was SO predictable...and that's coming from someone who loves Dan Brown. There was lots of dead-horse-beating and a very unrealistic stigma throughout the whole book. I KNOW I can't speak for everyone, but I refuse to believe that in this day and age, a child would be ashamed of their mother in the military. Not a spoiler, just a very common thread of the book and I was totally over it after it was mentioned the first ten times. I think the story had potential, and I will not lie - I did cry. It struck some heartstrings in there but by no means was I knocked off my feet like in The Nightingale.The story wasn't awful, but I genuinely would not recommend. It will work for some people and it will really resonate with some people, but in general, as a 25 year old female who's partner is an OIF veteran, I just couldn't get on board with some of the characters' ignorance and it just felt really forced. I really just finished it because I have a hard time abandoning half-read books - which I'm glad I did because the ending is not disappointing.So far Kristin Hannah is 50:50 with me and eventually I'll try another book and hopefully love it as much as The Nightingale!!!

It's been a while since I started reading a book I just did not want to put down. The last was probably The Nightingale. The story sucked me in, and I just wanted to read until the last page. I felt very important issues were touched on in this book. That said, I cannot believe I liked a book so much and at the same time, disliked so many characters. The husband was a jerk through more than half of the book. The (almost) teenage daughter was a total brat. And the main character was very unrealistic in her life views for half the book. But.....I suppose those elements are what made the story so good.A few things bothered me....I would love to know the answers to all these, not that I ever will.First, what did they do with the kids once weekend a month and 2 weeks each summer? The kids and husband acted like the mom never spent 5 minutes away from any of them.Secondly, when she started drinking wine every day, why didn't the husband just get rid of it all? It's not like she was going to get to the store to buy more!And third, why did it take so long for the husband to get her the help that she needed? You don't have to be Freud to know she needed help badly.I would definitely recommend this book to friends.

I was excited to read this book following Nightinangle by the same author. Especially since I am married to a career soldier who served 30+ years. I have been around everything you can imagine to include watching our wounded soldiers come from the battle field in Landstuhl Germany. We have friends missing both hands and legs, parts of an arm or even part of their face. We know many who truly have PTSD and battle it daily. This book left me saying this is complete BS and half way through I struggled to even want to finish. And through all my years of life within the military I have never seen anyone have this lack of support for their soldier. Ms Hannah has no military experiences and sought help from people who served but I am surprised they could have led her to this direction of what military life is like. Through the entire book I kept saying to myself....this author is completely writing out of her knowledge and experience and there is a clear disconnect. And it is clear she has agenda to bash military life and not paint it in the positive that it can be. I do not plan to recommend this book nor share my book. It is going into the trash.

Wow. This book just blew me away. As a mother and former soldier in the Army Reserve, married to an Infantry solider who deployed to Afghanistan, this story hit close to home. The passion for the job, the bonds you make with your fellow soldiers, the sacrifices, the pre-deployment emotions, the heartbreaks, the reality of homecoming....Hannah did an incredible job conveying all the ups and downs in a Military family. It felt so REAL. We were also both stationed at Ft. Lewis in Washington so I knew the setting of the book exactly and it felt real and believable. The author did an amazing job with her research for this book, I really enjoyed the author's notes and interview with a female black hawk pilot at the back of the book.I also spent some time working with wounded Veterans at Walter Reed and Hannah's description of recovery and PTSD was heartbreakingly accurate. We have Veteran friends dealing with many different kinds of injuries, some physical, some mental, and we've even lost friends to Veteran suicide. This is such an important story for the American people to know and understand and Hannah does a beautiful job conveying this without over-doing it. However, I would like to add that Jo would have had more support from the Army (doctors, physical therapy, psychiatrists, psychologists) after coming home.I loved that this story was from a female soldier's perspective. Many women have fought and died in combat even though they were not (during the time this book was written) allowed in combat positions. Being a female soldier in an Army of men can be tough, and I do wish Hannah had developed this issue a little bit more. The use of "Fly girl" and "Soldier girl" didn't sit well with me. They both seemed a bit overused and too dramatic for my taste.Overall I absolutely loved this book and have not stopped thinking about it. I have only cried reading 2 books in my life and they both happen to be by Kristin Hannah: this one and The Nightingale. She manages to convey real human emotion so well, I only hope that the scheduled movies for these two books can do the same!
