I was in the mood for a good, wholesome, feel-good love story. Every once in a while Sparks delivers. The last book of his I picked up, "The Longest Ride" was one of those feel goody types so I had high hopes for this one. The first couple chapters of "The Best of Me" were ok...just Ok. After the first few chapters the story quickly went downhill. I personally felt it was confusing the way it introduced new character viewpoints each chapter. Sometimes this can work in the author's favor but in this case we never really got to know any characters in depth.Also, without giving too much away I felt storylines were recycled from other well known novels of his - i.e., parents don't approve of leading lady's boyfriend, fight ensues, couple breaks up, leading lady moves on (but not entirely), long separation & then reunion, mother of leading lady shows up at house to talk some sense into leading lady (but maybe to encourage her to follow her own path)....sounding familiar? *cough*The Notebook*cough*.Semi-Spoiler Alert!!No happy ending here...not even a semi-happy ending where they grow old and die together. The ending to this story was rushed and sadly predictable and left a lot to be desired. "Best of Me" was definitely not Nicholas Sparks best work. I'm surprised by how many 4 and 5 stars it received.

Nicholas Sparks never disappoints. This is a poignant story about chances: random chances, lost chances, and second chances. A story of families, relationships, regrets and redemption. About once-in-a-lifetime, enduring love; lost, found, denied, and eventually recaptured. It's a story of honor, duty, responsibility, purpose, selflessness, and fate. This book will make you fall in love; will break your heart, will make you cry, and just maybe, it might even bring a little smile to your heart at the end. What more could you ask for! This is "the best of" Nicholas sparks!

I like to read a Sparks novel occasionally as a break from more serious literature. They seem like well written romances with good plots and characters. However, the endings have become predictable and never 100% happy. From the beginning of this book, I kept thinking about how it would end and if someone would get killed.Dawson and Amanda had been high school sweethearts even though they came from "opposite sides of the tracks" in Oriental, NC. They split up due to pressures by her parents. She ended up married to a dentist and they had children. Dawson went to prison for four years for accidentally killing the town's doctor when driving a vehicle. Later he worked on offshore rigs in the Gulf.Dawson and Amanda met up again over 20 years later when Tuck a mutual friend and father figure in Oriental died. His will requested that they scatter his ashes at a cottage that had been owned by him and his deceased wife. Two of Dawson's cousins hated him and made multiple attempts on his life.At some point the ending became very predictable and typical of Sparks. Nonetheless, I enjoyed reading it. At least up to the predictable ending.

It was corny and unrealistic. His books have gone from romantic to nauseating over the years and this is no exception. Amanda is childish. So she has problems in her marriage, who doesn't? So as soon as she sees her first love runs into his arms. And Dawson, never dated, had sex ever again because he never got over Amanda. Seriously?! Finished it because I did purchase it but oh no. What a waste!!!

If you ever had a first love that got away, this is the book. It was a real page turner. It brought out a range of emotions, including tears. I really enjoyed this book. I read reviews where people said it was predictable. Maybe so at times, but I say it is a true romantic story. He wrote it with other characters involved in the story, and left us to fill in the details of their lovemaking. He tells a story, not just focusing on jumping in and out of bed. I found this very refreshing. I've read 2 more books by him since this read. I've found an author who actually tells a story.At first I thought I knew how the ending would be, but boy was I wrong. A funeral brings two high school lovers back together, but only for a short time. An old man's last wishes, a bar fight, car accident, and a one in a million chance of getting a transplant will keep you reading this book untill the very end.I'm not a big romance novel fan, but I tend to find myself enjoying Nicholas Sparks books anyway. I love how his stories are really well developed and thought-provoking, rather than just revolving around the physical aspects of love as many other romance novels do. "The Best of Me" had to be one of Nicholas Sparks' best novels yet. Yes, the basic theme is one that's been done over and over again - two high school sweethearts having to let go because real life interferes, and then running into each other again years later. But this story is so much more than that. You find yourself really sympathizing with the characters and understanding how difficult their situations are. Nicholas Sparks captures and holds your attention until the very end in this book, and this story is one that I'm sure will stick with me for a long time.The Best of Me follows the struggles of Amanda as she must decide between her imperfect family and her first love, Dawson. Her decision is heart-wrenching, and the events that ensue will inevitably bring tears to your eyes. Amanda discovers what really matters in life, and Dawson is able to truly give the best of himself to Amanda in a shocking manner.In true Nicholas Sparks fashion, The Best of Me is simultaneously heart-warming, melancholy, and suspenseful. How Dawson gives life to Amanda is sure to change your view on what is important to you.

I was in a lot of pain last night/early this morning, so I finished this up. I gave it 2.5 stars because there were aspects of the book that I enjoyed, and the plot twist did get me for about 75% of the book.That being said, there were certain aspects of the book that I didn’t love. The “thriller” component was missing for me. I didn’t find the plot to move at an intense pace and there were certain points where I was actually kind of bored. I wasn’t scared or stressed vicariously through the characters; this may speak to my feelings of “meh” for all of them.Overall, I think there was a great premise here and the cyber bullying aspect was great. The thriller/suspense fell flat for me, though. I really need that in order to fully enjoy a book when it has been promised as such.

I found this book confusing and slow at times . I had a difficult time getting involved with the characters because I never knew who the characters really were. In spite of that I was enough involved in the book to have read to the end which is not something that I always do. I am not sure to whom I would even recommend this book. I think it's probably best read by Millennials , by people who are closer to the high school age then I am . Maybe that is part of my problem with this book . I can't say that I didn't like it. I just can't say that I did like it. As I said confusing.

Great tension and pacing. It had me guessing right until the end and even then some. The attention to detail in the way the plot kept going until the last page was perfect.

Overhyped so I was disappointed in it. The tension was rather thinly stretched and repetitive and the characters never leapt off the page. I finished it and will be interested enough in JJ Pomare to see what he does next.

Call Me Evie by JP Pomare is a highly recommended twisty psychological thriller with an unreliable narrator.Seventeen-year-old Kate Bennet is living in an isolated beach town in New Zealand with a man who she has to call Uncle Jim. He keeps telling her that he is trying to keep her safe; that the authorities are looking for her; that she needs to recover her memory and get better. She has been told that she did something terrible one night back home in Melbourne. She is to tell everyone that her name is Evie.Chapters alternate before and after; between Kate's memories of her past, with events leading up to her current house imprisonment as "Evie," and her present situation in New Zealand. Her past memories seem like that of a normal teenager. There have been some difficulties in her life, but she seemed to be handling everything fine. Her present circumstances seem illogical and sketchy. Jim is giving her some prescribed drugs to help her feel better and recover her memories. She doesn't trust him, but doesn't remember the events he claims lead them to hide out here. He claims he is just trying to protect her and they don't want "them" to find her whereabouts. Kate is desperate to find out what she supposedly did and get home to Melbourne. At the same time, Jim's paranoia and furtiveness is growing.This is an engrossing thriller that will hold your attention, if only to try and find out the truth behind Kate's tortured memory and her current weird imprisonment with Jim. Every character is unreliable in Call Me Evie so you aren't going to know who to trust. Kate's memory is fragile, but she seems like she is truthful. Jim seems sketchy, like he's hiding something, but he seems to want to protect Kate. Who can be trusted? Who is hiding the truth? What is the truth? When you reach the denouement, you will be shocked.Call Me Evie is a well-written debut novel and certainly a page-turner, making Pomare a writer to watch. The before chapters will actually hold your attention and keep you reading in order to understand what has happened in the after chapters. The after chapters move a little slowly and are written to be vague, with a repetition of feelings and actions. Additionally, a case could be made that some of the information that is withhold until the end could have been slowly released earlier in the after chapters.Disclosure: My review copy was courtesy of Penguin Random House.

He tells her everyday that she has done something bad and that he is just protecting her so they don't take her away. Kate tries to piece back the memories of what happened but only remembers bits and pieces. She knows it had something to do with her then boyfriend, Thom, but Jim won't tell her exactly what happened, just that she did something bad.This story is told between two timelines: before the accident and after they've reached their new hideout space. As the story goes on, Kate starts to piece together the events from Before but she still struggles if this is a dream or real. Can she trust herself and the thoughts that she is having? What could she have really done that was SO bad that she deserves the treatment that she is getting. Time will tell for Kate.This was Jp Pomare's debut novel and I was so happy that this was so strong for being a debut! Before this book I had picked up a few thriller/suspense novels but nothing was keeping me engaged. Once I started Call me Evie, I read it within a day and wanted to know what happened. Was I totally shocked by everything? No, but it still had the right amount of suspense and excitement to keep me reading at a quick pace.Overall, I really enjoyed this debut Thriller by JP Pomare and I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys thrillers/suspense. It does have some violence and verbal abuse in it, but nothing too harsh that I couldn't get through it. I will definitely be reading the next one by JP!Thank you to Putnam for my ARC of this book!

The tutorial on sailing a catamaran is actually understandable and interesting. Lots of “nautical knowledge” is related. Book 3 appears to be set up at the end, but this is not a cliffhanger and it does stand alone well. I’m looking forward to the next book in this series!

Cap Daniels, a new author emerging with two hits and leaving you anxiously waiting for his next book! What more can you say?But there is more. Cap continues building his main character, Chase Fulton, in the series providing a foundation for future exploits. Not to spoil your enjoyment he does toy with the readers emotion early and winds it up neatly at the end.....but does leave the door open for you to learn more.Daniels does a good job with a quick review in this second installment to bring a first time reader up to speed. However, I urge you not to skip his first book, “ The Opening Chase “, as there he provides a good enjoyable read while providing real depth in background and basis for the series.Cap Daniels joins writers such as Wayne Stinnett, Dawn Lee McKenna and others who through this media bring quality exciting books for us to read with value and affordability. I have enjoyed his first two books and the test for me is do I look forward and anticipate the arrival of an authors next book. I finished his first book and immediately read this one and look forward to the next one. Enough said!

Finished this second Cap Daniels book at 5 am...I could NOT stop reading! Another really good story and another shocking surprise. This book picks up right where "Opening Chase" ended and there was lots of adventure and excitement between the pages. Again, a Covert Operator with several "errands" to handle and lots of "bad actors" to be taken down! And we get to meet more people I hope will be helping Chase in the future. I'm not sure where the author comes up with these stories...but I sure hope he's got lots of time to get them written as I can hardly wait for the next installment of Chase Fulton's Adventures.

In this second installment of Chase's story, he must find a way to bring a dear friend to safety, while suffering a crushing loss in the process. I found myself holding my breath, sensing what is coming, wishing it wouldn't, yet shocked still when it did. Cap is building a great series and I am in it for the long haul. I thought that I had previously reviewed this, but apparently life got in the way or I just can't find it among all of the other 5-Stars! I have read ALL of Cap Daniels books and am now anxiously awaiting #5.

You must read this book! Better yet, read “The Broken Chase” AFTER you read “The Opening Chase”!Cap Daniels chisels an intricate story, paints an amazing picture, breathes life into his characters, leads you into deep waters, allows you to briefly come up for air, and articulately delivers another book that leaves you hungering for more!Brilliantly written! You will not be able to out-think this author. His mastermind skills will have you in awe of the plot twists. Just when you think you know what is next – you don’t. The finite details of expansive topics are delivered with just the right amount of technicality, but still an easy read. Perfectly edited!I am hooked on the well-crafted characters and this enthralling story filled with suspense, action, intrigue, and adventure. Absolutely enjoying “The Chase Fulton Series” and look forward to the next one. I highly recommend Cap Daniels’ books to anyone that wants to experience life at a different level!

After reading the first book, I almost passed on the rest of the series. The tremendous reviews made me buy book 2. I did find it better than number 1 by a wide margin. The author is either maturing or the story line just congealed to allow a tighter plot line. Where the first book strained even my sense of disbelief, the second goes forward in a relative straight line, with much more believable fact pattern. Definitely buying no 3.

Wow! Action novels don't come better than this second book by Cap Daniels. I wouldn't begin to tell readers the twists and turns in this captivating novel...just that there are so many. The storyline continues on from Book One, and I highly recommend that that is where one should start. As for me....I can hardly wait for Book Three in the series.

I'm not a literary critic, but I know when I like a book. This book by Cap Daniels is one of those types of books. I was enthralled by the story, so much so that I was disappointed that it ended when it did. I hurriedly obtained his next installment to pick up where this book left off. I have not been disappointed in his writings.

CJP has written of a young officer who resigns from the army because he will not shoot innocent women and children even if theory are Indian. He rescues a white woman and saves her from the Sioux. They travel from western Nebraska to Cheyenne with difficulties all the way. They arrive in Cheyenne and the lady goes to Oregon and the man to his brothers ranch north of Cheyenne. This is an excellent read for the genre..... ER.

Although this book is a great read as all the books byC J Petit I would suggest he get a very good proof reader as this book had more mistakes than any of the others but I did not let it deter my enjoyment of the story. I was surprised that Bessie just disappeared after her death with no mention of a funeral or burial. The same with the disgusting brother but that could be overlooked because he was a horrible man. Having read all of the authors books I would suggest more change in food selections when dining as it seems the desert selection is always the same...:) keep writing as mr Petit’s books are the best value on Amazon for light western reading!!!

It isn't very often I "straddle the fence" with regard to scoring a book review. However , this is one of those times. The author repeatedly goes into great descriptive depth regarding the body's response to being shot with guns. How it enters the body, the obliteration of the organs and the destruction left. The author continually uses the same adjectives over and over again to describe affectionately the names for the spouses. The storyline itself was great, but the descriptive nature of the violence makes me unsure if I want to read another book from this author.

Although there is action and a good story, it is mundane. Much of what is written seems to be nothing more than a boring attempt at meeting a quota to make the book longer than it needed to be. I'm glad this was not the first Petit book I read. If it had been, it would have been the last.

This is one of greatest authors I have read in over 65 years, right up there with LaMour, Zane Grey and Max Brand!! I was so impressed I went back and reread it in its entirety, some thin I've never done before, rereading a story I man. I am going to order ever book wiritten by C J Peti!!!

I am a great fan of the western genre. This one had a bit of a different spin and held my attention. Read in two sessions. Will check into other books by C. j. Petit. Hope they are as original as this one. Good job.

The story had a great base, but it was dragged out and topics repeated to often. I like all the details of the story, but it gives me a feeling of the writer is pushing pages to meet is quota deadline. I am following this writer, the early books give me more depth and history understanding. c. j. petit, your still a great story teller. Rapid

The book title caused my hesitation to read what turned out to be an interesting story, though similar to other books by this author. One man able to kill so many others with such ease, seemed troublesome to this reader. Good read overall.

The book is the best "do it yourself guide" on planning and installing Ethernet cables inside one's house. As a result, every room has access to the internet. Here are the "good" and "bad" on this book...ADVANTAGES.1. The instructions are simple and clear..2. Colorful pictures guide the reader on a "step by step" process...DISADVANTAGES.1. The guidance makes network cabling too simple - something that anyone can do it. . . . That is the problem. Any small error can make the network useless: a crimp in the Ethernet cable, a staple that penetrated the cable jacket and shorted the interior wiring, using cheap aluminum cables, stretching the cable beyond 300', locating the cable next to a microwave oven and kitchen appliances, bad crimps inside connectors, and a host of others..I have seen many professional cable installers messed up their work. Using their experience, "know how," and expensive testing equipment, they were able to correct the errors and made the network operate. Unfortunately, the average "do it yourselfer" does not have these. If the installation fail, the only alternative is to hire a professional to redo the work - usually at a higher price. To undo the mistakes, he may have to tear up parts of the installation and make corrections by replacing the damaged wiring..2. A cheaper alternative is to "go wireless." Hire a professional to locate an Ethernet wire in the center of the house in every floor and install access points on the ceiling. This gadget will connect computers, game stations, smart phones, and other devices to the internet by using radio waves. The trade-off is internet speed - a third to a half slower than Ethernet wire, but it is adequate..Using this strategy, I was able to hire a CenturyLink cable installer to put in an Ethernet cable on the first floor for $100. The price included labor, materials, and a one-year warranty on defects and workmanship. If I did the work myself, a bulk carton of CAT5e costed $150, a combination stripper/crimper tool was $50, and staples and connectors totaled $40. After a few hours of work, there was no guarantee that everything was done correctly and the network would work...In a "nutshell," this book provides valuable insight on the work involved in planning and installing Ethernet cable. To get the job done correctly, hiring a professional may be the best alternative.

It's great for the actual physical aspect of wiring a network. Although it seemed a little outdated (even for 2004), it's still seemed good for PHYSICALLY laying out and installing a network. I really hoped it would have more information about the technical aspects of home networking, like how to avoid bottlenecks, how to ensure everything would flow smoothly, maybe even throw in some cool outside-the-box hacks and things like that, but it was very much lacking in those areas. I don't give it lower than four stars since the title of the book is WIRING Home Networks, and it does work pretty good for that purpose. One star taken away for not taking into consideration that "designing" a home network is about more than just the physical wiring.

I began rewiring my home for a telephone intercom system and a computer network before I found this book. Just by flipping through the pages on installation in an existing house I realized that I could have saved myself a lot of time and effort and have had a more flexible system by following the tips and ideas in the book. My house was built in the 1950's and the book provided the detailed instructions, diagrams and photos I required to finish the retrofitting. I also saved quite a bit of money by building my own cross-connect system as described in chapter 5.I highly recommend this Sunset edition to anyone involved in installing and maintaining digital or data networks in the home.

Very very basic book

THE WIFE LOVES THIS STUFF, It makes her happy

I rewired my house for cable, phone and a computer network and this book covered it all. It did take a couple of rereadings on the part about how to do the final terminations (there are a lot of colors and wires), and there are two wiring standards, but the book did cover it. I'm not a technician, but with a little forethought and common sense I got all 3 systems working the first time.

In just over 120 pages, this Sunset edition on home network wiring covers in great detail wiring your home for digital. Along with step-by-step details, illustrations and photographs (2-3 a page) provide very useful visual examples. I had bought a few wiring books before this and none come close.

As soon as I saw the blog tour announcement for COURTING DARKNESS, I jumped at the chance to take part. I had been wanting and intending to read the His Fair Assassin series since the first book, GRAVE MERCY, released in 2012, but I hadn’t yet done so. I knew this book was in the His Fair Assassin universe, so I figured it was the perfect time to binge read the series…and I’m so glad I finally did! Historical fiction is one of my favorite genres and has been for as long as I’ve been reading, and these books were like a balm to my soul, filling a need I didn’t even realize I had within me. It’s been a while since I’ve read good medieval historical fiction, and the HFA series was like coming home after a long time away!While the original HFA books each featured one initiate of the convent of Saint Mortain, COURTING DARKNESS is told from two perspectives: those of Lady Sybella, from DARK TRIUMPH, and a new character, Genevieve. I really enjoy stories told from multiple points of view, and this book was no different. The sections alternating between the two characters are short and always leave you wanting more, compelling you to read “just a little bit further” to find out what happens next. The girls’ stories are independent from one another while at the same time slowly converging, and I felt myself growing more anxious as the pages flew past.While I love each of the original trio of assassins, Sybella was absolutely my favorite (although I will admit that Balthazaar was my favorite romantic interest!), and I was so happy to hear more from her. I had no idea when I read DARK TRIUMPH just how personal Sybella’s story was to Ms. LaFevers, but I do know that Sybella just felt so special to me. Reading the author’s note at the beginning of COURTING DARKNESS helped me see that she is also special to Ms. LaFevers, and that Sybella had much more of her own story to tell. It’s fun to meet yet another of the convent’s initiates, one who hadn’t been at the convent during the formative years of Ismae, Sybella, and Annith. Genevieve’s training (or lack thereof), and her relationship to Mortain, are so different from our original trio, and it was fascinating to know, as the reader, things about her gifts that she didn’t yet know. And of course, Ms. LaFevers has written yet another delicious romantic lead in Maraud! I still heart Balthazaar, but Maraud is definitely swoon-worthy :)Even though this book is about 500 pages, I flew through it (as I did with the first three) and was absolutely not ready for it to end. I am now lamenting having to wait a year for part two of this duology! I am so glad that Ms. LaFevers went back to the world of His Fair Assassin to bring us more of the convent of Saint Mortain, badass proto-feminist assassins, delectable love interests, and incredible female friendships. I cannot get enough of this series and will, without a doubt, read as many more books in the HFA world as Ms. LaFevers is willing and able to write. I hope she continues beyond the conclusion to this duology – but for now I am content to wait (not so) patiently for the next part of Genevieve and Sybella’s adventures. I wish I could give this 1000 stars, but since I cannot, I hope I have at least conveyed just how highly I recommend COURTING DARKNESS and the entire HFA series. So I wanted to smack Genevieve there at the end but I get to the last page and chills went down my spine!! Woot!!I was so excited to read this book because I loved the first books and Sybella and Beast!! Courting Darkness is a spin off book from the His Fair Assassin series, it’s been mentioned that you do not need to read the trilogy before starting this, but I’m going to disagree and say that you should read the trilogy first. There are things going on that you may feel lost and confused about.The book is told in dual POV that goes back and forth between Sybella and Genevieve.Courting Darkness picks up where Mortal Heart left off and we are following Sybella and Beast. Sybella and her fellow Handmaidens of Death are trying to come to terms with a world that no longer has the presence of Mortain and the mark that guided them, now they need to make choices that they see as being difficult since their training did not prepare them for this.I was thrilled to see that Sybella and Beast were going to be back, they have an amazing dynamic bond.We are also introduced to Genevieve, who is an initiate of Mortain. She has been undercover for 5 years in the French court and is starting to feel that the convent has forgotten about her and her mission. I did not care much for Genevieve, she seems to go through the story with blinders on and just wants to do things her way, with no consideration for others and the consequences her choices could lead to.There is a lot of political intrigue that takes place in the book, which some may find boring and or confusing since there are several houses that are part of the book.This book is a slow burn since there is no real interaction between Sybella and Genevieve until the end, which seems to be a build up for the second book.I do plan on picking up the second book in the duology since I love Sybella and I want to see if Genevieve smartens up.
