This book gives a good introduction to basic Texas hold'em strategy for players who are already familiar with fundamental concepts such as pot odds, implied odds and bet sizing and it definitely improved my game. Gordon does this by explaining how he plays the game; as he mentions, this is not the only way to play. He usually explains his reasoning, but there are a few parts where he does not and the reader is left to guess. This is a problem since this is a beginning poker book, but fortunately it does not happen too much. Another criticism is that the post-flop part of the book is almost entirely focused on heads-up play. If you play in lower stakes games where the players are too aggressive and love to see flops at any cost, you will undoubtably need to make changes to his recommendations. Of course, such players are not difficult to beat, but multiway pots will still occur sometimes against good players. The book also contains some advertising for a certain poker site that Gordon is apparently affiliated with. When I purchase a book, I expect that it will not contain such promotional material. Another minor point is that the author's compainion website for the book no longer exists, so the links given to it in the book are broken.

Gordon gives a tremendous amount of important and useful poker advice in this 200 page book. A very helpful guide for beginners and or intermediate poker players. I've just starting playing online tournaments and The Little Green Book has helped me a lot. To mention just a few examples of his suggestions: if you're the first in the pot you should raise never limp, vary your bet by position not hand strength, don't overestimate the importance of suited cards (they don't add that much value to your hand) and much more.I also suggest listening to his poker talks on YouTube, covers some of the same material but in more depth. My only caveat this is really useful for beginners and intermediates. If you've been playing at a high level for years you probably won't learn that much new.

I"m just starting down my poker journey and this was the second poker book i brought (after the 'Theory of Poker').Filled to the brim with good stuff, but I feel i must read it a second time and condense it down into my own notes. ~ 400 pages is too much for me to hold in my head but if i condense it down to a few 'cheat sheets' then the core of this work will be retained I think. Some humour and reads well as one man's 'notes' to another. if you are a beginning like me highly recommend. Can't really comment about whether a pro or semi pro will get value. As another point of view i imagine its worth the price of admission.

I am a big fan on Phil Gordon's books that he writes. I think he undervalues how good of a player he is (most of the time). However, I wasn't 100% sold on this book. I saw a mixture of reviews, but I also finished reading the green one, so naturally the blue one was next in line (I also got a cheap deal for them).Well, long story short, I was slighly dissapointed in his book. I will list the Pros/ConsPros:Walks through the mentality of some key hands he has played before (some of them difficult as expected)He gives good tips on certain situations, thus adding to one's game if they already don't have it in their headHe gives a few tells (although not a great deal of them, but still, valid tells) which would help a person in the long runHe is very articulate in his writing, expressing his thought process with great detail. The book wasn't that difficult to readCons:His ego has a tendency (although, at times he uses it for humor) to get in the way with the point he tries to get acrossHe is extremely math oriented, excluding a few times that he gets a worthwhile tell to bring to the table to assist in his decisionsI felt that there could have been a bit more substance that would have dramatically assisted in this bookLong story short, I was torn between giving this a 4 star rating, as I feel this book is fairly well written, drives home some of the necessary ideas as well as elaborates on points that he (Phil) may view priority over other points. However, I felt like there could have been a few more points that he should have driven home harder.Overall, if you are a very experienced/seasoned player, I would probably not recommed this book. If you are an intermediate player who is looking to improve your thought process while at the table, this book might help enough to get you to make better decisions. I do like this book, although I feel it could have had more substance to it.

Phil Gordon is probably the most undervalued poker writer. This book will explain exactly how expert poker players make decisions in an easy to understand (and remember), logical fashion. He breaks down complex information into understandable chunks and recommends a somewhat aggressive style of poker.I have also read his other little books (blue, yellow etc) and recommend them all. And I don't say that about any other poker writer today, except maybe Dan Harrington for tournament poker. And I have read 20-30 poker books on this site up to 10 times each.If you are a good but not great player, or just starting out, pick up this book, it will save you years of learning the hard way.. (By losing)Even if you are an advanced player you will learn something from this book by learning to keep your game simple yet effective.P.S. If you are interested in some other form of poker than NL Holdem, then this book is not for you..
