We have 2 boys and 2 girls so they have known boys and girls are different for some time. This was a nice gentle book to introduce the subject until we have to take it to the next level. Dont waste your money on buying the boys and girls version. This book is perfect for everyone in the family, not just my daughters. It's a better book for my 4 year old. My 6 year was a little old for it.

This is a helpful introduction to the differences between boys and girls, beginning at a young age. Some parents may not appreciate the drawing of a naked little boy and girl at this age, and I respect that. I found the book as a whole to provide a gentle background to exploring human sexuality at later ages. It helps to demystify what is often a taboo subject, and it does so in the context of loving, Christian families. This is a tricky subject, and it would be difficult for anyone to earn a perfect rating in presenting it, but I thought this series worked very well for me and for my daughters.

This is definitely a beginner, beginner book to this topic. My 3-year-old loved it, but it was a little babyish for my 6-year-old. The 3-year-old (a girl) was carrying around the book on the page with the drawing of a naked little boy and girl, saying "Mommy! This is what I have and this is what (brother) has!!"It was a great book for her to cement the fact that each gender is different, and we can all embrace how we've been created. But I think my quiet 6-year-old was probably left thinking "Duh..."

Easy to read and explain to your daughter the wonderful design of a human (intended for girls). 1 illustration of girl and boy body parts, the rest of the illustrations are of just family life, kids playing, different roles/jobs that men and women play in the world.Very basic information, not over whelming for a mind of a 3-5yr old child.

We bought this book for our 4 year old son so that he could learn the proper name for his anatomy in a way that didn't feel awkward for us as parents. The book is age appropriate, simple, and straightforward. It even gives a very simple explanation of where babies come from without bringing sexuality into the explanation. I think this book is great for any parent that is a little uncomfortable directly telling their children certain things and that find it easier with a children's book to read together.

I got this in the mail today and just read it to my daughter who is 5 and a half. She paid close attention and had no idea that boys and girls were anatomically different until seeing the pictures. It was just enough information for this age and I told her that this was just stuff we talk about at home and not with our friends at school. As soon as I finished the book she wanted me to read it again. It sparked great conversation and I think it was well presented.

My 5 year old daughter enjoyed this book and it relieved me of an awkward subject - the fact that boys are anatomically different from girls. She is an only child and I really don't think she had the occasion to learn the outward differences on her own, so I felt it was time to address it, lest someone take advantage of her lack of knowledge in some nefarious way. This book is very simple and the perfect first book to read to your preschooler about sexual differences. The words were easy to understand, as were the illustrations. Her only reaction to the boy's anatomy was a giggle and "Look" as she pointed to the area, and that was it - she just accepted it without any confusion or concern. I am very glad we started with this one!

I was looking for a book to share this delicate information with my daughter. I viewed one other book series but, it shared more information than I felt was appropriate for my daughter's age. This book gave the right amount of information that I wanted to share with my daughter.My daughter loved the story and she is looking forward to reading the other books in the series with me.

As a former resident of Oklahoma City and Des Moines, I enjoyed reading of the success these cities are experiencing and the people that helped make it happen. My father was a sportscaster - involved in public service - and politics, so I understand Mick Cornett's perspective on making a difference where you live, where you love. Midsize Metros are amazing opportunities for businesses and families. This was a fun read for me and one I recommend it to others.

Repetitive and not all that insightful.

This is a book of essays about the triumphs of mid-sized cities. Some of the chapters (such as the chapter of Albuquerque's subsidies for jobs for the homeless and some of the Oklahoma City chapters) are specific enough to be interesting. But many of the chapters are so vague about what cities did right that they are not particularly educational; for example, the book writes that the mayor of Louisville sought to increase compassion and improve workplace culture, but doesn't really say too much about exactly what the city government did or whether it was successful.

I just finished Boomtown by Sam Anderson. It was a fun, irreverent, loving look at my home town of OKC. It made me appreciate OKC on a new level, teaching me things about its history and revitalization that put me on a renewed kick of civic awareness and appreciation.So, Audible very reasonably recommended Mayor Cornett's book to me.And its... OK. As good as he was as Mayor, he's a dry and uninspired writer. What's not objectively stuffy about this book feels forced and inauthentic.But whatever goodness there is in the story is overcome and battered down mercilessly by the narration.Tom Weitzel's narration sounds like this: "I want to tell you. About... A funny thing called, rhythm and voc-al cadenceinspeachtoday,... you guys." He pauses, then speeds up randomly. It's like the vocal equivalent of a teenager learning to drive with a manual transmission. It's jerky and unveven and terrible. I thought I had it on half-speed for the first couple minutes. Nope. So, I bumped it to 1.25x. That just made the bursts of normal speech sound jarring and garbled. In the end, I listened to this book at 1.0x. That's all that was listenable.Where he tries to insert emotional affectation, it just sounds like a guy with a tucked-in polo and a clip-on phone case saying OMG when his daughter starts talking about Cardi-B, all while wondering where all the Sears stores went. That is to say, it's clueless and ill-fitting.They say that a good book can be made better by great narration. Well, a mediocre book can also be made miserable by narration. I'll be watching for Tom Weitzel's name in much the same way I watch for things like "Directed by Michael Bay" and "Get rich Quick". That is, I'll be avoiding him with care.

I believe this book was written more to enhance Cornett’s reputation during an election season than to actually make an impact in urban policy. I was pretty disappointing. There's just nothing to sink your teeth into. It paints a nice rosy picture of Oklahoma City and Cornett’s career while deftly avoiding anything uncomfortable. The rosiness of the vision is so over the top that it's laughable.It feels like watching a cheesy 90s family-friendly movie where the super white family lives in an upper middle class neighborhood and the parents look like stock photo models.For something more substantial read “Boomtowns: Restoring the Urban American Dream” by Stephen Walters, or “Triumph of the City” by John Glaeser. I’ve also heard “Boom town” by Sam Anderson is a much more thorough book about Oklahoma City but I haven’t read it yet (that’s next on my queue).

What Mick Cornett has done for Oklahoma City is beyond comparison! I have watched him do it, and lived the experience. After reading the book, I have more hope for America and the future of any city that embraces Mick's ideas. He gives us both hope and courage. Thank you, Mick, for writing this book. Your ability to bring people together to reach consensus is amazing and so needed in this day and time. I LOVED THE BOOK!!!!

This book was a real disappointment. As a long-term gadfly in a large scientific organization, I had hoped for a substantive treatment of the subject from both the corporate and the dissenting viewpoint. Alas, the amount of really useful insights could have been well covered in 20 pages, but by endlessly repeating the same trite statements and observations (sometimes on the same page!) the author implies that the reader is either slow-witted or forgetful. The content overall is about on a par with an article in an airline magazine and clearly doesn't justify 214 pp. Mostly fluff. If you take a highlighter and just pick one sentence and highlight it every time it repeats, it is truly embarrassing.

In doing research for a religious-based article about the role of the "prophet" in the church, I stumbled upon this excellent text that says it all for the modern church. Yes, I agree with several other reviews of her book that it fries your brain with repetitions ad infinitum and ad nauseum. However, I'm forced to rate it as a 5 start book just due to the fact that Dr Nemeth has scientifically forced us away from a majority position held in most organizations that states we have to go along to get along. And for the point of my future article, she supports the fact that the “prophet” in the church is usually eventually cast out of the local congregation as an undesirable rather than the one human being that might have it right when his “rant” is well considered in context.Being a coward at the core, I have melted away on many occasions when confronted by a church leader who is essentially telling me, “Shut up,” and to cease and desist as I attempt to confront a Biblical value that isn’t being considered by a church officer. And a “prophet” in the congregation is Biblically forced to speak only to the leaders to be on the right side of submission to authority, rather than being a divisive wolf in sheep’s clothing who attempts to round up rebels outside of that circle. Nathan spoke only to the king of Israel directly and not to the nation to describe David’s departure from G-d’s commands.So this text backs up what should be completely apparent to us from a naturalistic point of view. No matter the group, no matter the fallout from “speaking the truth in love,” we must speak that truth to set things right in our organizations, especially in regard to the groups in which I have an interest - churches. Doctor Nemeth, with her text as badly written as it might be, is a fresh wind blowing to give me permission to speak up in a straightforwardly honest manner while speaking those words with the utmost respect and love. Nemeth has assisted me to have more of a backbone. “Let the chips fall where they may,” I’ll be able to use this book as a crutch to support my position that it is not always the right thing to try to make nice in a meeting. Sometimes the majority may be wrong, and in my quest for a “prophetic” voice, I want to do the right thing for the One who sends me rather than just stroke the majority so I can be accepted by the group. In that goal, Doctor Nemeth has spoken to me most clearly.For those of you who read the Bible, please note that the prophet is never portrayed as one who had friends, and rarely family. And neither did he have a professional book of social psychology, such as this text, to back him up as he spoke to the nation of Israel which was his congregation. I believe we’ll see more and more church leaders purchasing this book, especially as I note its theme in my future writings on this subject.

I learned of this book through the excellent KERA Think Podcast, "The Dangers Of Consensus And Compromise" from March 22, 2018. You may wish to listen to this interview first if interested. EDIT: There has also been an interview with Russ Roberts on the Econ Talk podcast which might be worth listening to.This is a fairly short book on the subject matter, and I think it could have done with much more exploration. The book is almost entirely non-technical even though the entire premise is the backing of behavioral research data supporting it's cause.Unfortunately I found some of the descriptions of these research experiments to be confusing through both the writing style and some editing errors. For example, on pages 97-98, during a description of an experiment involving a stick figure within an image, the word "figure" and "image" are transposed in several places. Overall, descriptions of how experiments were conducted could have been better.The most significant gripe I had with this book was that it left me wanting for solutions. If one of, if not the primary, cause for the absence of dissent in groups is the active and intentional suppression of decent, what can be done to prevent that? I didn't feel that enough time was spent on the solution to the well-stated problem. Further, lessons in this book seem limited to intellectual environments such as business, academia, law, and politics. Many people out in this world want whistleblowers jailed or killed. The book doesn't have anything to say about about society at large, but neither did it pretend to.On the upsides, I appreciated the nuance presented in making the argument between the active encouragement of artificial decent and the creation of an environment where authentic decent is permitted without punishment. And, overall, I found this to be a good book and worth reading.Finally, catastrophic failure enthusiasts like myself will enjoy references to multiple failures of decision making in practice, including the crash of United Air 173, the Jim Jones Peoples Temple cult, and the failed Bay of Pigs invasion.

This book is a well articulated argument for thinkers to speak up and question other's points of view. The book is easy to read and comprehend it could change the way meetings are conducted. It is highly recommended reading for most anyone especially those who lead discussions.

The substance is interesting, but I could not help but feel this was a long magazine article stretched in to a book.

Great synopsis of the topic, and very relevant to education my company is developing. Thought-provoking, groundbreaking research in a readable and relatable format. I highly recommend for leaders.

Forty years in industry have provided me ample proof of the sub-optimal outcomes that arise from an urge for tribal conformity. This book hits the mark and should help any reader recognize when he/she finds himself in the midst of a herd. I'd recommend this book for anyone in a corporate environment or organization larger than about ten people.

I bought this as a gift for a friend who is not only a coffee enthusiast, but also a former barista, thinking he'd enjoy some new ideas and techniques for his at-home coffee.I flipped through the book when I got it and it was obviously for someone who's new to the coffee world. Seemed like a good book, but not for someone who's more experienced with coffee.

This book is good if you are looking for very, very, very,.......did I say very,.......basic information. It is a small book and as a result content does not go very deep. Example, the history of coffee along with regions and regional characteristics was covered in about 15, maybe 20 6"x6" pages which included pictures with a few sentences per country of origin. The "how too's", at least the ones I read, did not go into much detail, no tips and tricks, guidelines, or things to watch out for. Example, frothing milk basically said place tip below surface, heat to 105 degrees, dip deeper, heat to 140, then pour, not much else, at least not enough info to help me figure out why my frothing technique was not quite up to snuff. In addition to all this the binding, book cover, and many of the pages were completely apart upon arrival with no damage to the package.I did not ding the book for its condition upon arrival, figuring it to be a fluke, so my 3 star rating (and I do feel I was being generous) is solely content based for someone like me who is an aspiring home barista hungering for details on coffee, origins, brewing techniques, and other pertinent details.....details being the operative word.If you want details and depth there are better books out there.If you want a basic book that looks cool, that you want to keep on your coffee table for casual reading and you do not want to go into much detail on the overall subject of coffee this is a good book. If you are hungry for information wanting to go into depth overall on the subject of coffee there are much better books out there.

I purchased this book for a wedding shower to include with the bride's Crate and Barrel coffee mugs. She thanked me more for the book than the mugs... so money well spent (on the book, at least!) I glanced through prior to giving it to her... well written and great photos!

Quick, clear and enjoyable read.The authors write things in a simple to understand way without the shrouds of mystery and language that sometimes surrounds coffee, there's no real need to make it so complicated!So a good book if you want to know more about coffee and want to cut out a lot of the jargon.

Not bad. Ok for entry level, but not enough information if you are truely trying to be your own barista as the title suggests. Could have more information on doing your own pour over, using a French press ect, a scale, ect.

This is more of an education on beans and coffee with some recipes. Very informative but I was looking for just recipes. Cute book though.

A great resource for anyone wanting to learn more about the coffee/espresso you drink. But most especially for those who are brave enough to try and make espressos for themselves at home.

this book described perfectly the origin and types of different cooffes, I love the fact that I can learn a lot and looks like a pro talking about it
